Freeport Golden K Kiwanis releases update Journal Standard FREEPORT — The Freeport Golden K Kiwanis recently released an update on their 2020 activities. Blackhawk and Empire elementary schools K-Kids Clubs have participated in community activities to help meet the increased local need for food, clothing and Christmas toys during the pandemic. K-Kids is a student-led service club in which elementary students identify community needs, plan projects and fundraise to help their community. Groups at both schools worked with The Salvation Army sponsoring a holiday food drive, a Christmas toy drive and a clothing drive to support those in need. The Golden K Kiwanis recently recognized Mary Palermini for her 15 years of dedicated service as the Empire School K-Kids adviser.
