Assessment of capacity moving away from medical sphere
Amendments in relation to the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015 are to go to Cabinet in May and to be enacted by September this year, the inaugural Decision Support Service conference heard this morning.
The Act and the Decision Support Service (DSS) set up under the legislation are due to be fully operational by June 2022. The Act is to provide a multi-tiered decision framework for those lacking decision-making capacity, limited to timed and specific issues, whether due to disability, acquired brain injury, or age-related conditions such as dementia, some 1,500 people heard at the first online event hosted by the DSS.
