File/News24 Integrity testing for aspiring civil servants and external experts in interview panels for the positions of director-general and deputy director-general are some of the measures proposed to professionalise the public service. This is contained in the National Implementation Framework towards the Professionalisation of the Public Service, which was gazetted for public comment on Christmas Eve. The deadline for comment is 26 February 2021. According to the framework, professionalising the public service starts with recruitment, and with the introduction of measures right through from induction, planning and performance management, continuing learning and professional development while in the job, and plotting proper career paths in the public service.
