Well the Prime Minister has welcomed the Prime Minister has welcomed the release of the mother and daughter and thanked qatar for its leadership on the issue and their efforts in freeing the hostages and the Prime Minister was in egypt yesterday meeting the countrys president as well as Palestinian Authority leaders , where he stressed the importance of intensifying dialogue to ensure peace and stability in the middle east. Its 48 hours. Ive been to three Different Countries and met six different leaders, including Prime Minister netanyahu and president abbas , netanyahu and president abbas, to discuss the situation in israel and gaza. This is a israel and gaza. This is a region in mourning. So first and foremost, i wanted to express my condolences to all those affected. And weve also made affected. And weve also made Good Progress on tangible areas like ensuring access for humanitarian aid to those who need it, but most importantly , need it, but most importantly, in a situation like this, its important to intensify dialogue because we all have a shared interest in peace and stability interest in peace and stability in this region. In this region. Well exactly two weeks ago, on october the 7th, the world looked on in horror as the Palestinian Terror Group hamas attacked israel, launching thousands of rockets from gaza and gunmen also breached the security fencing designed to keep more than 2 million palestinians out of israel and then killed and kidnapped men, women , children and soldiers. Women, children and soldiers. Well since then, weve witnessed more innocent lives lost as israel retaliated , bombing gaza israel retaliated, bombing gaza almost every day and night. This is how breakfast here on gb news has reported on a war thats divided opinion and challenged World Leaders to somehow find a way to end this bloodshed. And sadly, were bloodshed. And sadly, were having to bring to you this breaking news that israel has declared war readiness. Thats what theyre calling it after surprise attacks from the gaza strip, the Palestinian Islamist group hamas launched its biggest attack on israel with israeli officials reporting around 2500 rockets being fired from gaza, as well as sending fighters across the border. As videos and across the border. As videos and photos of dead israelis emerged on social media. So too, did images of armed men from hamas, taking soldiers and civilians into captivity in gaza. And civilians into captivity in gaza. Just gaza. Just wahaca de man the idf will immediately use all its strength to destroy hamass capabilities. Within hours, capabilities. Within hours, airstrikes on gaza. Airstrikes on gaza. The Israeli Military has said today that it has struck hundreds of hamas targets in gaza overnight. But video just coming into the newsroom in the last few minutes has shown a refugee camp has been hit. Obviously, many civilians there and before even this escalation, 80 of the population in gaza was relying on humanitarian aid. On humanitarian aid. Today. Today. Today. Sorry about that. Are you safe . Are you is there somewhere you can go now . Are you okay there . I yeah, im okay now, but i dont think we can consider any place safe in gaza. So im lets see. Im fine. Hamdullah thank you, joe. Sam cofino whos live for us in tel aviv. A lot of people, especially in southern israel, people who have had relatives killed or people who are held hostage inside gaza, they have simply said that they want to see gaza turned to rubble. They want to eradicate hamas, and they dont care how many people die. Care how many people die. Well, our main news this morning and the humanitarian crisis is escalating in gaza as israels large scale Bombing Campaign continues to flatten entire areas. Well, tens of thousands of civilians in the gaza strip are fleeing south right now after israel gave palestinians living there just 24 hours to leave. Anna sewell boisvenu by otzma. We are striking at our enemies with unprecedented might i emphasise , this is just the emphasise, this is just the beginning. Beginning. Our enemies have only begun paying our enemies have only begun paying the price. We well paying the price. We well at least 17 british citizens are missing or confirmed dead following hamas attacks last weekend. Just finally, i understand that you you knew many people whove been killed. Whove been killed. Approximately how many of your friends were killed . Your friends were killed . I cant count it. I i dont know anyone who doesnt know someone who has hurt him or injured or kidnapped or dead. Injured or kidnapped or dead. Well, good morning. Welcome to the program. Its horrendous to the program. Its horrendous news to greet you with today in gazas deadliest day yet of the conflict, hundreds are feared killed in an explosion at the al al arabe hospital in gaza city overnight at the Gaza Health Ministry spokesperson has said that hundreds have died at the building after what palestinian officials said was an israeli airstrike. Ai rstri ke. Airstrike. The temptation to turn ourselves into a shouting or recriminating society must be resisted. Resisted. You cant look at what has happened here to your mothers, your fathers , your grandparents, your fathers, your grandparents, sons , daughters, children, even sons, daughters, children, even babies and not scream out for justice. S but as he left tel aviv, hamas rockets lit up the night. Sky aviv, hamas rockets lit up the night. Sky dumping more guns and more munitions and clapping and cheering on as more bombs are dropped on 2. 3 Million People who are caged in an open air pnson who are caged in an open air prison is not the answer. You cannot bomb your way into changing peoples minds. The americans couldnt do it. Others couldnt do it. It just wouldnt work. Its so bleak thinking work. Its so bleak thinking that its two weeks ago today. That its two weeks ago today. And i think theres a lot of i mean, as you see from the coverage farage, theres an understandably so. Theres a lot of focus on what is happening in in gaza. And i think people are in gaza. And i think people are sort of forgetting a little bit of what happened. What prompted this and what what happened two weeks, two weeks ago today. And its utterly dreadful. Its important to remember that. Lets head to tel aviv. Should we . Our reporter, Charlie Peters is there for us. Whats the latest , charlie is there for us. Whats the latest, charlie . Latest, charlie . Well, those two hostages released last night by hamas, the terror group in gaza, who took them on in that atrocious morning on october the seventh, they were released into israeli territory, taken by Israeli Soldiers and brought to their families last night. This was welcome news in a time of appalling misery, especially for so many of the families waiting for news about their loved ones taken by hamas on the seventh. Yesterday, the idf said that over half of the hostages are confirmed alive. They didnt give details on how they acquired that information. They acquired that information. They also said that over 20 are under 18. So dozens of children still being kept by the terror group in the gaza strip. But the news also of those released hostages was welcomed internationally with the french. The americans and also the british coming out to thank qatars efforts for liaising with hamas in their facilitation of hostage release. This is not the first time qatar has been involved in such a mission. They were instrumental in ensuring mediation for hostage release in africa recently for an american held there and also in the Ukraine Russia conflict. Qatar has also acted as a mediator for the exchange of prisoners , but the exchange of prisoners, but the idf reaction is still one of there are still at least 201 hostages in the gaza strip. This is only the start. This is a small gesture. In fact, they say small gesture. In fact, they say there will be no break in their attempts to destroy hamas. And this release and those statements come just 24 hours after the defence minister, yoav galant, yesterday set out his plan in lucid detail on how they intend to destroy hamas. He said intend to destroy hamas. He said there would be fires and tactical manoeuvres presumed to be a reference to that Ground Invasion and then a lower intensity of war after they, quote, assassinate hamas and destroy its infrastructure. And then he said the security responsibility of gaza will be handed over. Still a lot of criticism in israel about the lack of an end state plan for the israelis, for the upcoming move into the gaza strip. And move into the gaza strip. And they do see that the attempt to release hostages by hamas is seen by many in israel this morning as an attempt to delay the invasion. Many people around the invasion. Many people around the world calling for a delay to secure more hostage releases. And that is clearly a priority for the but but as their for the idf. But but as their plan set out yesterday, they still want to invade. They still want destroy hamas and all want to destroy hamas and all its capabilities wherever they can find them. Can find them. Of weve seen of course, weve seen President Biden and then rishi sunak going to israel and of course, visiting other World Leaders or middle eastern leaders. And i guess a lot of people will find comfort in the fact that maybe thats why it is important for us all to have other friends in middle eastern countries, because qatar played such an important part in releasing those two hostages. It does show , doesnt it, some sort does show, doesnt it, some sort of grounds for optimism that hamas will at least talk talk about releasing hostages as well. Is there any chance there could be more. Well, many are seeing this as a cynical release , a strategic a cynical release, a strategic and tactical release designed to delay the invasion. And there is, of course , a sign of is, of course, a sign of optimism with regards to the fact that some diplomacy here clearly has worked. I think maybe the american and qatari diplomacy being the most crucial here since 2015, the us has had a deputy special president ial envoy for hostages around the world, and that person is currently based in israel working on engaging with regional partners. No other nafion regional partners. No other nation has such an involvement in the hostage situation in the gaza strip, but also hamas has enjoyed the depiction of this conflict as the western world versus the arab world. And so engagement between qatar and the us and the uk and of course the other nationalities who have hostages inside the gaza strip is a crucial information war effort to reduce that depiction. Effort to reduce that depiction. But at the same time, many of the arab powers, in fact, all of them around israel and indeed in them around israel and indeed in the north, have engaged with significant protests with their people in reaction to that explosion on tuesday night in the hospital in north gaza. Only the hospital in north gaza. Only the americans and the israelis have put fonnard a comprehensive understanding of what they believe has happened in that explosion last night. We heard from french intelligence saying what they thought happened, but weve not heard rishi weve still not heard from rishi sunak the british sunak or the British Intelligence community. What do they happened on tuesday they think happened on tuesday night . And they think happened on tuesday night . And there some they think happened on tuesday night . And there some concern night . And there is some concern in among security in israel among Security Officials discuss officials and people discuss this issue that some western nafions this issue that some western nations will not discuss their version of events of tuesday night, of that Tipping Point in this conflict as the arab world erupted in anger. They will not discuss it because they fear the blowback their own countries, blowback in their own countries, as protests have also rocked. Lets not forget london and many other western capitals. So a very significant moment here in understanding how they can engage with the hostage situation also use more situation and also use more diplomacy the arab world to diplomacy in the arab world to try and bridge that gap that has erupted tuesday night. Erupted since tuesday night. Okay, charlie, thanks very much. The information, okay, charlie, thanks very mutinformationhe information, okay, charlie, thanks very mutinformation war nformation, okay, charlie, thanks very mutinformation war thatnation, okay, charlie, thanks very mutinformation war that charlie the information war that charlie talks about is so important. The information war that charlie talks about is so important. And talks about is so important. And i think because a lot of people are just take a side and thats not right because you cant necessarily believe what you what you hear, which is always the case in conflict. Its just very interesting. The release of those two hostages is a surprise to me because i didnt think hamas were capable, frankly, of. But were capable, frankly, of. But as charlie pointed out, it may well be a cynical thing, but i didnt think they were capable of actually just sort of negotiating at all. But clearly there is room for manoeuvre and that makes it that must be of extraordinary hope the extraordinary to hope the relatives of those are still relatives of those who are still hostages so many children hostages and so many children under 18. Scary , isnt it . Yeah. Look, scary, isnt it . Yeah. Look, it is 615 if youve just joined us, lets remind you of our main news this morning. And hamas has released two american hostages in what theyve described as a sign of goodwill. The pair are have been reunited with family members in israel. Thats who they were visiting at the time. Thats as President Biden has called the mother and daughter to say the white house will help them in their recovery. Them in their recovery. Meanwhile, in london, security is being ramped up as thousands of pro palestinian demonstrators are set to take to the streets of the capital today amid fears that that march could become violent. Become violent. Now, if it isnt bad enough or hasnt been a second red weather warning has been issued for parts of britain with storm babet wreaking havoc in scotland as the capital city now braces itself for a spell of torrential rain. Rain. Yes, the storm has claimed at least three lives now, including a 60 year old man in shropshire after he was swept away by fast flowing floodwater. Flowing floodwater. Well, thats as 4000 families in scotland have lost power, while others have been evacuated from their homes. From their homes. And this all comes after Leeds Bradford airport was closed after a plane skidded off the runway. Gb news, scotland reporter tony mcguire takes a look now at some of the worst affected areas in scotland. Affected areas in scotland. Unprecedented flooding caused by exceptional and persistent rain. Just some of the language used by the met office to describe the Severe Weather inflicted by storm babett. But on the ground, theres really no words to convey this destruction. Angus council pled with 350 homes to evacuate, but many chose to stay in place. And chose to stay in place. And rescuers have been hard at work going door to door since 3 am. After more than 100 calls were made requesting assistance. The made requesting assistance. The wall and river street was swept away around half four and the south river esk rushed onto the road and flooded the bridge end arms owner scott mcneil has had this pub for 20 years and even he was taken aback by the severity of the floods. Severity of the floods. Weve never flooded , although weve never flooded, although that river streets flooded, weve never flooded so yeah, very surprised this time. Very surprised this time. 100m down river, a caravan park lies completely submerged by the overflowing river. Slowly but surely, the water is beginning to recede here in river street, as power is gradually returning to 28,000 affected homes. But the affected homes. But the substation here in broken remains submerged and the damage from the water unknown , meaning from the water unknown, meaning that the pumps cant be powered and begin removing the rest of this water. 50m of wall gone in the river. Local resident Chris Maguire owns a home here and is frustrated that the £14 million flood defence ses doesnt include back up generators to cover for this very situation. Cover for this very situation. I know this is unprecedented, but last year it flooded less than 12 months. Its flooded twice now an additional red weather warning is now in place for saturday as the country braces for more wind. Rain and sleepless nights. Rain and sleepless nights. Tony maguire gb news has broken god , thats rough, isnt it . God, thats rough, isnt it . Horrible. Well, the weather horrible. Well, the weather expert phil morris joins us now. And, phil, good morning to you. I think a lot of people thought last night that the worst may be oven
