Shes a natural with a squeegee and a dad. Terry has held the world record for a man for 29 years. Why would it be gender specific , do you think a window cleaner . Yeah, it shouldnt be. Really . I wouldnt have thought so. 50. So. No, i mean, some men are taller than some women, but i wouldnt have thought there wouldnt have thought there would be much difference between a male and a female window cleaner. No, i wouldnt really. And is it where they used ionised water and a brush . Yes. And a squeegee. I prefer it and not a squeegee. I prefer it when they have a squeegee because you sort of think, well, theyre dirty stuff because you sort of think, well, theyarent dirty stuff because you sort of think, well, theyarent they. Dirty stuff because you sort of think, well, theyarent they. Does stuff because you sort of think, well, theyarent they. Does that because you sort of think, well, theyara 1t they. Does that because you sort of think, well, theyara difference. Does that make a difference. Theyre made for very to theyre made for very hard to reach places i suppose. Yeah. But least it means your but at least it means your windows are cleaner than they would be otherwise. You do the insides. I hate doing windows because is so because mainly because it is so difficult it right. Yeah difficult to get it right. Yeah i mean, basically you need elbow grease, you . It takes grease, dont you . It takes a lot work get it to you lot of work to get it to you know, to get it looking good when you have windows fitted and they then clean them before you once its all done , they use once its all done, they use vinegar because i said to them, well, how do you get you know, i bet you get asked this all the time, but how do you get the windows . So theres only a young lad. He said, its. Oh, vinegar, vinegar want to try vinegar and water. I want to try that myself , but i hate cleaning that myself, but i hate cleaning the of them. The inside of them. Yeah, then your room yeah, but then your room would of vinegar, wouldnt would smell of vinegar, wouldnt it . Probably. Would smell of vinegar, wouldnt it . Pididnll. Would smell of vinegar, wouldnt it . Pididnt notice at the time. I didnt notice at the time. I they were nice i just thought they were nice and clean. Sort of vinegar, and the sort of vinegar, i suppose, streak free. Thats the point, isnt it . And theres nothing than badly nothing worse than a badly done window, the window, because then when the sun you see it. Dont sun comes out, you see it. Dont you see all the marks . Yeah. So if what i want to know this morning is if youve got top tips for cleaning got any top tips for cleaning windows, cleaning windows. In there theres a song in there somewhere, isnt there . Ive tried it all. Is there . Ive tried it all. One of those vacuum suction things, magic cloths, that things, the magic cloths, that you can get where you just use water. Yeah, yeah. And its like. Like the rubber. Like the rubber thing. You the squeegee. Yeah. But youve always got to wipe it every time. And if you notice professional window cleaners do that, they it. They that, they do it. They do the thing they every thing and then they wipe every time. Thats the difference. But at the end of the day youd rather somebody else did it wouldnt you. Its just one of those jobs. Yeah. Yeah. Like like cleaning the like its like cleaning the sink. Hate that oh dear. Sink. I hate that too. Oh dear. Yeah ive got a white butler. Oh yeah. Yeah, so you have to keep it looking nice dont you. Silly isnt yeah but you do. Yeah. Isnt it. Yeah but you do. Yeah. I cleaning the sink. Yeah, i hate cleaning the sink. Yeah, yeah. No, dont mind cleaning the no, i dont mind cleaning the sink, windows me mad. Sink, but windows drives me mad. Whats your favourite job . Housework. At home. But some housework. Job at home. But some people like tidying up and cleaning, dont they . Yeah, some cleaning, dont they . Yeah, some people me. But anyway. Right. Should we but anyway. Right. Should we crack on with what is some slightly concerning news . Because the Royal Air Force , has because the Royal Air Force, has launched, a Major Mission to find cyber hackers from russia who jammed a plane carrying the defence secretary. Yeah, the whole incident lasted about 30 minutes. They reckon. And the attack took out reckon. And the attack took out one of the primary navigation systems. As the raf jet flew close to the russian enclave of kaliningrad in the baltic sea. Well, it took place just after our reporter, ray addison, was given exclusive access to a nato Training Exercise in poland i they move from room to room , they move from room to room, breaching , clearing. These nato breaching, clearing. These nato soldiers may not speak the same language , but they are fluent in language, but they are fluent in the art of urban warfare , the art of urban warfare, working together to neutralise the enemy. And as the tip of the the enemy. And as the tip of the spean the enemy. And as the tip of the spear, theyre ready to roll against russia in a matter of hours. Lieutenant colonel ben hours. Lieutenant colonel ben hawes is in command. My major observation is soldiers are soldiers and no matter what language they speak, we all understand the nato drills that we have to go through, and weve been able to, after a very short period of practice, execute some very complex operations. This is just the latest exercise involving british troops. Defence secretary grant troops. Defence secretary grant shappsis troops. Defence secretary grant shapps is here to show his support. I would say back home most people are unaware here of this enormous nato exercise. Not just large, the biggest since the cold war. Cold war. 20,000 are taking part in operation steadfast defender, with another 70,000 from all 32 nato allies. Its designed to send a very clear message to the russian president dont push us too far. Putins end game is to carry on expanding russia. You dont have to take my word for it. Its what hes said himself many times. Nato isnt trying to expand into other peoples territory. We are simply here to territory. We are simply here to defend our values of freedom and sovereignty and democracy. We should be proud of what these guys have been doing here, making sure we can exercise together. Most importantly of all, sending a very clear signal to putin or any other despotic leader that we will stand up for ourselves and dont try it on. With russias war in ukraine now in its third year, the defence secretary is urging western allies not to get fatigued, but to treat putins ongoing invasion as a wake up call, a message that we must have the resolve to spend what is required on defence, if not, it will only embolden those who may wish to test our resolve. Meanwhile, these nato forces stand ready to deploy within 48 hours. Though no nato country wants war, putins illegal invasion of ukraine has reminded the west that it can never show weakness and there is certainly strength in numbers. Ray addison gb news. Well, lets get the thoughts now of robert fox , defence now of robert fox, defence editor for the evening standard. Robert, a very good morning. Robert, a very good morning. Thanks for joining robert, a very good morning. Thanks forjoining us. This incident that happened with the jamming of certain signals reaching that raf plane , is that reaching that raf plane, is that a shock to you or is it just a very difficult bit of airspace , very difficult bit of airspace, theres not much of a shock to me. Ill bet this goes on quite a lot. But it shows you russias prowess as what . What is known as Electronic Warfare , it was as Electronic Warfare, it was flying close to a bit of russian territory, which is the tongue of land of around kaliningrad. Its a bit between , lithuania its a bit between, lithuania and the polish border, which is and the polish border, which is a russian base, it did temporarily upset the communications with shapps plane , but, there was a backup system, its, rather embarrassing for the brits to. Because although shapps has made a big bid for improvement in the defence budget, which, a lot of his remarks was about, one of the weaknesses is in the area of communications, strangely enough i yeah. I mean, youve got to ask because were told a Major Investigation is now underway. Is this dangerous . Is this being seen as a threatening action . Yes. Its hot. Its hostile. Without really being bringing us to the edge of war. They were. Excuse me . They werent going to shoot the plane down or anything like that. But it emphasises an like that. But it emphasises an undergoing a serious point of worry about vulnerability, of communication in this country, not just raf , support jets, not just raf, support jets, there was a falcon 900 daso, passenger passenger plane , but passenger passenger plane, but this goes on day in, day out with really big Cyber Attacks from different sources , not just from different sources, not just from different sources, not just from russia, china has been involved. Its part of the new involved. Its part of the new reality. And its interesting reality. And its interesting that this should happen now at the time, within a matter of days or hours of the polls opening for, putins, in inverted commas, fifth, fifth election to be president and Supreme Leader of the russian federation. Federation. So are there lessons to be learned, do you think from this incident . Well, i think the lessons will have been learned already and the vulnerabilities would have been known, i dont think this would have come as quite a surprise as it may appear from the daily mail, headline ins, but i do think that it will stress an underlying concern. But grant shapps message, by the way, in the piece, as you know , way, in the piece, as you know, is that hes asked for 3 of Gross Domestic Product to be paid on defence in this election year. Paid on defence in this election year. Look back paid on defence in this election year. Look back just a few paid on defence in this election year. Look back just a few days year. Look back just a few days to jeremy hunts budget statement. How much did he mention about defence . Said it was quite a good thing and we were doing jolly well. And the biggest european contributor to ukraine. Not true, overtaken by germany now i dont think in number 10, downing street theyre actually getting out the memo pads and the tablets and saying, gosh, weve got to change, our budgetary program on this, because there its we would like to spend more on defence, but only when we have got the opportunity and the conditions of the british economy allow. But if this sort economy allow. But if this sort of thing goes on that weve seen there and there has to be further commitment to ukraine because theres a weakening in support for from america, this may well become inadvertently an election issue because what this does emphasise is the defence all the way around, particularly cyber defence, will have to go into the election manifestos. Now i think neither major party really wants that very much. Really wants that very much. No. Well, as you say, itd be interesting to see. Robert, thanks very much indeed and very interesting talk about what interesting to talk about what will and will not become election issues, because when will that election be . Now . The Prime Minister has ruled out holding a general election on the 2nd of may, amid speculation that he could choose to go instead to the polls very early. Well, that all comes as the labour party have urged number 10 to call an election next week , which is pointless because the timing for that would mean may the second, which is now ruled out. Keir starmer claiming the Prime Minister needs to get a backbone. Well, the Prime Minister is required to hold a general election by at the latest january 2025. Yeah, very good to be very interesting finding out. Lets see if olivia utley is around and she can tell us what the likelihood is now , i dont know likelihood is now, i dont know about you, im sort of slightly disappointed because i was hoping for a may general election. That was we get a move on with it. And ill bet you a lot of people in the country feel that. So what is the next most likely date, do you think, olivia . Well, i think thats a really interesting question. Obviously, interesting question. Obviously, theres of fevered theres been sort of fevered speculation that speculation for months now that rishi sunak was planning to hold a election at start a general election at the start of may. That would tie in with the local elections and the logic behind that we would logic behind that was we would get out of the way that for get it out of the way that for essentially things are looking pretty bad for the conservatives why get it all over and why not just get it all over and done with on the 2nd of may . We now know that that is not going to but rishi sunak has to happen. But rishi sunak has also out having an also ruled out having an election in january 2025. The biggest clue that hes given us is that it will be in the second half of this year. So we assume either october or november. Now, ive spoken to downing street staff whove been wargaming for the possibility of a early november election, which would tie in with the American Election. There are some worries in downing street and beyond that, an election coinciding exactly with the American Election could lead to some sort of security risks. If specifically if donald trump is elected president , there could be a bit of global uncertainty for a few weeks, possibly months after that election. And would it be sensible to hold an election exactly at the same time . Number 10 think that that might be a possibility, but my bet would be on an october election. Just jump the gun and get in there before the us election. Now, the logic behind election. Now, the logic behind that for the conservatives is that for the conservatives is that rishi sunak is telling us over and over again that his plan for the uk is working and actually there are some signs that it is. Inflation is down. Rishi sunak managed to get well, inflation was halved. Whether it was sunak doing or not is a question for debate. But inflation is now down at 4 and it looks like its going to keep getting lower. Meanwhile, Interest Rates, although they are frozen at the moment, look as though they will start to fall over the course of this yeah fall over the course of this year. So sunaks hope is that by october or november, the cost of living crisis will be starting to abate and peoples mortgages wont be under so much strain. So thats his logic in waiting. But how long is he going to wait . Yes, well, well find out eventually. Alvydas thanks very much indeed. Gosh, yeah, i just i just wonder how people are just going to get fed up with it now. Yeah i do think that also i mean, you could say that hes going to play could say that hes going to play for time so that hopefully he can make it look as though things are improving before he goes country. But doesnt goes to the country. But doesnt it give for the tory it also give time for the tory rebels try oust him rebels to maybe try and oust him as minister . Yeah, well, rebels to maybe try and oust him asdoes minister . Yeah, well, rebels to maybe try and oust him asdoes , minister . Yeah, well, rebels to maybe try and oust him asdoes , itiinister . Yeah, well, rebels to maybe try and oust him asdoes , it does. R . Yeah, well, it does, it does. Which would of course guarantee defeat , which would of course guarantee defeat, wouldnt which would of course guarantee defeat , wouldnt it . Guarantee defeat, wouldnt it . I cant see there would be any appetite at all for another as people would view it on elected leader in that. In that sense i would thats and who has got who has got what it really takes to turn things around that quickly anyway, i mean, is there a superstar would be Prime Minister in the offing . Can you think of somebody whos got it . Whos got that mad charisma or or knowledge or experience to be able to turn things around . I just dont see it happening. I cant see it.
