Georgetown edges out St. John’s in overtime, 97-94 It took another period of play but the Hoyas managed to outlast the Red Storm in OT Share this story Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports The last time St. John’s and Georgetown played each other was in the opening round of the 2020 Big East Tournament. A game that ended with a St. John’s win and more importantly was one of the last games to be played before the shutdown of the 2019-20 college basketball season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The teams faced off again Sunday night, still in the midst of the pandemic and in the middle of a season that is chopping and changing with each day. Originally on the schedule, Georgetown were supposed to be playing host to the UConn Huskies, but that game got cancelled and in its place was the Hoyas playing host to the St. John’s Red Storm for an on-campus clash at the McDonough Gymnasium.
