Get set for a revolution in car sound systems as vibrating surfaces replace speakers

Good loudspeakers tend to be bulky and heavy, two things you could do without in a car. And no matter how wonderful they sound, at least one other passenger invariably doesn’t want to listen to your rotten music choices.
Fortunately, various people are working on these problems, including German companies Sennheiser and Continental. The former is a respected audio company, best known here for its headphones. Many are aware of Continental tyres, but the company has a much bigger business supplying the automotive industry with a vast array of parts, equipment and leading-edge technology.
The companies are combining their respective AMBEO and Ac2ated Sound technologies. By vibrating existing surfaces within the car, conventional loudspeakers can be dispensed with, leading to a claimed 90 per cent saving of weight and packaging space.
