GREATER NOIDA: The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, will add 170 more beds to the current 300-bed capacity. The move comes following increased bed requirement faced during Covid pandemic, to facilitate specialised treatments such as knee, joint replacements, and dialysis facility. The additional beds will be set up in a new building to be built at a cost of about Rs 10-12 crore and is expected to be ready by next year. The state government has appointed Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd (UPRNN) to draw a final plan. GIMS director Brigadier (retd) Dr RK Gupta said, “We have a 300-bed facility in the hospital. During the pandemic, we increased the number of beds to 500 at the cost of our various departments that were converted into wards. Now that the number of Covid cases are down and to facilitate special treatments such as joint and knee replacements, dialysis and CT scans, I have asked the state government for funds to make a new, separate ward to set up 170 more beds. This will take our official capacity to 470 beds.”
