Grays Beach to switch from 'free' to 'fee' beach for 2021 season

YARMOUTH PORT — Grays Beach has become increasingly popular over the past few years, but last summer the number of visitors exploded.
“Under the COVID restrictions, going to the beaches was one of the few things you could actually do, and people wanted to be outside and be able to socially distance,” Yarmouth Department of Public Works Director Jeff Colby said. “Because of that, the demand for that beach well exceeded anything that we'd experienced previously. It was much busier, more chaotic.”
The beach, also known as Bass Hole, has historically been free to all, with its 51 lined spaces open to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis.
