'The tip of the iceberg': COVID long-haulers facing financial ruin

Last March, at the beginning of a pandemic that would change the world, Chantal Renaud’s husband, David Lackey, came home from his construction job feeling unwell.
Shortly afterward, Renaud became sick as well. She began experiencing difficulty breathing and exhaustion. Over the following months, she visited doctors and emergency rooms, was treated unsuccessfully for suspected asthma and spent weeks in bed, at times convinced she was going to die.
