Holyoke Gas & Electric survey gauges interest in high-speed internet service Updated May 03, 2021; HOLYOKE — Holyoke Gas and Electric has launched a survey to gauge demand for residential high-speed internet service. The municipal utility recently mailed customers postcards with a link to the online survey. James Lavelle, HG&E’s general manager, said the survey has drawn more than 700 replies so far, with most respondents supporting a gigabit-speed, fiber-optic network. In November 2019, Holyoke voters approved a nonbinding question for HG&E to explore the feasibility of home internet service. “We evaluated bringing fiber to the home for several years. To do an entire buildout at once is showing not to be economically viable,” Lavelle said. “We have a strong indication of interest to date for the service.”
