Hordes of Fords gather for hospice fundraiser

The Nelson Classic Car Museum, one of the Nelson club sponsors, also brought along some gleaming machines from its collection.
There were a range of other Ford favourites from Jeff Welch's 1994 Ford Falcon restored as a "sheriff car” and his 1976 Gran Torino inspired by the car used in the 1970s detective show
Starsky and Hutch to Mac and Louise McIntyre's bright orange 1980 Ford Transit van. Gwennyth Fenemor was there with her 1930 Ford Model A Town Sedan car that was owned by her father and which she learned to drive in.
Welch, who gained his passion for cars from his "home mechanic" father, said the inspiration for the sheriff theme came from the club committee's sheriff role. The Falcon was not originally a patrol car, but he painted it black and added gold sheriff stars, and the blue and red lightbar, which he kept covered on the roads.
