In fact, when spotted, many a local reaches for their phone to capture the animal on film or excitedly point out the sighting to their eager little ones. What many do not realise is the dangers humans and nature pose to these mammals, especially when captured and reared as household pets or harmed in accidents. With squirrel breeding season underway and Squirrel Appreciation Day just celebrated worldwide last Thursday (21 January), a local organisation is calling on people to report any sightings of injured squirrels or abandoned kits.
