Gallo Images Former National Assembly speaker Baleka Mbete on Tuesday admitted that she willfully ignored a whistleblower's report on the arms deal, once again raising questions about Parliament's oversight role. According to the South African Constitution, aside from electing the president, and passing legislation, the National Assembly has to scrutinise and oversee executive action. During her testimony before the Zondo Commission late on Tuesday afternoon, going into the early evening, Mbete testified that she had received a document that was slipped under her office door.
