Vote counting for West Bengal's violence-filled three-tier panchayat elections began amidst tight security on Tuesday. Votes held for 73,887 seats in the panchayat samiti, zilla parishad, and gram panchayat will be counted across 22 districts of West Bengal in 339 venues. An estimated 2.06 lakhs of candidates contested. The counting will continue for two days, with all venues manned by armed state police personnel and central forces.
