Day two of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s testimony at the Zondo commission on Thursday was characterised by an examination of the ANC members’ allegiance to the party, versus them honouring the oaths of office or solemn affirmations they made in the National Assembly. At the heart of the probing was to determine if the propensity of the members was conforming to the party’s positions as a collective, rather than honouring their constitutional obligations. The evidence leader and commission chairperson Deputy Judge President Raymond Zondo wanted to know if this allegiance was to blame for the delays in taking action against ministers and state-owned enterprises that had been exposed by the media as being influenced by the Guptas.
