Education dept probing ‘mysterious’ death of Grade 7 learner in Soweto
Official reports indicate that the learner incident took place at a Soweto school on Wednesday morning before the lunch break.
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has appointed an independent investigative body to determine the circumstances surrounding the mysterious death of Sibongiseni Khoza — a Grade 7 boy learner from Protea South Primary School in Soweto, Gauteng.
Schools recently reopened for learners on Monday 15 February 2021. Just last week, Lesufi said schools in Gauteng were ready to welcome learners back after a lengthy period of time. He said PPE’s, hand sanitisers, surface disinfectants, liquid soap, two face shields per educator and cloth masks had been delivered. He also said the feeding of about 1 545 562 learners would commence on Monday at all the relevant schools.
