PETALING JAYA: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has advised those celebrating Thaipusam this year to observe it at home on a moderate scale. In a greeting to those celebrating the occasion together with Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, Sultan Sharafuddin said that with it being a tradition for a long time, Thaipusam had been declared a public holiday in Selangor. Sultan Sharafudin also hoped those chosen to accompany the chariot carrying the statue of Lord Murugan to Batu Caves would adhere to the tight standard operating procedures set by the National Security Council (NSC). “Looking at the latest statistics in Selangor over the past two months with a significant increase in the number of Covid-19 cases and the number of deaths has increased drastically, His Majesty advises the public to strictly adhere to the guidelines set by the authorities.
