A 14-YEAR-OLD karate proponent from Kedah bagged the gold in an international martial arts e-championship, Makkal Osai reported. The event hosted by the World Martial Arts Development Organisation in Sri Lanka on Jan 28 saw more than 1,000 participants from 29 countries. Gayathri Suresh, who trains under the Kedah Mawashi-geri Karate Academy, was the sole representative from Malaysia. She is also the daughter of academy founder and trainer Suresh Mariappan. The young girl was awarded a gold medal in the 13-14 age category.
