Carleton University has signed a five-year agreement with IBM that will see the two organizations work together to train students for careers in cutting-edge fields such as AI, machine learning and data analytics. Under the deal announced Thursday, the tech giant will help the school with “joint research and educational initiatives” and become an adviser at the university’s Institute for Data Science, a big data analytics hub that includes more than 170 researchers from five faculties. “We’re excited to expand our partnership with IBM Canada,” Carleton president Benoit-Antoine Bacon said in a statement. “AI, machine learning and cloud technology are transforming how we live and work, and this alliance will provide students with the research and learning opportunities needed to thrive in the jobs of tomorrow and future-proof Canada’s workforce and economy.”
