The Iloilo Provincial Capitol is the seat of the Iloilo provincial government. (Tara Yap/Manila Bulletin) “The monitoring must be done in the barangays (villages),” said Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. This after Defensor issued Executive Order No. 2021-155, which updates the provincial government’s policies in tackling COVID-19 under the new normal. Defensor noted that the provincial government is not amenable for another form of lockdown or higher quarantine status. Instead, it has to strengthen its strategies on prevention, detection, isolation, treatment, and reintegration (PDITR). While there is still low daily attack rate of COVID-19 in the province, Defensor said that the new cases are mostly traced from those who had recent travel from outside Iloilo or those who had contacts with those inbound travelers.
