Impending collapse of large unoccupied Southeast Portland building likely caused by snow and ice Updated Feb 15, 2021; Posted Feb 13, 2021 Portland building at 1300 S.E. Second Ave. collapsing likely due to snow and ice. (Portland Fire and Rescue) Facebook Share A large metal-clad building at Southeast Main Street and Second Avenue began to collapse Saturday, likely due to heavy snow and ice. The building at 1300 S.E. Second Ave., which runs more than half a block long, was unoccupied and responding crews found no immediate danger to the public, officials said. “It’s a metal-clad building which is not really designed to bear a lot of weight on its roof,” said Rich Chatman, a spokesperson for Portland Fire & Rescue, Saturday evening. “So conditions like we’ve been having really put stress on a building like that.”
