Global smartphone shipments in 2020 fell 10 percent year-on-year to 1332.5 million units, latest Counterpoint data shows. In 2019, global smartphone shipments stood at 1479.1, the report highlights. Notably, the top five leading brands - Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, and Oppo held a combined market share of 67 percent this year.

Samsung retains the top spot with 19 percent share while Apple regained the second position with a 15 percent share. Huawei's saw a drop in global shipments by 21 percent and now holds the third spot with a 14 percent share. Xiaomi saw a growth of 17 percent in 2020 and stands at the fourth spot with 11 percent global market share. Oppo shipped over 111 million units of smartphones in 2020 to secure a share of 8 percent.
