Washington State University’s COVID‑19 protocols have helped detect an increase in positive cases affecting its Pullman campus, and aggressive efforts are underway to contain it.
The risk to the Pullman community is considered low.
Currently, 189 students and employees have tested positive for COVID‑19 since Feb. 24. Ninety cases remain active and those individuals are sequestering either at home or in University-provided quarantine accommodations. None have required hospitalization.
“Our protocols are working,” said WSU spokesperson Phil Weiler. “Our testing and screening procedures rapidly alerted us to an increase, enabling our contact tracers to quickly identify those who may have been exposed and notify them of the risk so they could get tested and isolate from others.”
