Increased meth use prompts SCDHB to review mental health and addiction services


Dopamine is a neurotransmitter which affects mood, pleasure and motivation. It is harder for P users to maintain sobriety because their mood often takes a long time to lift due to the depletion of dopamine, making relapse rates high, Kibble said.
She said the DHB had sought community feedback since February on how it could respond more effectively.

She said wide-spread consultation had been undertaken, including the SCDHB Māori Health Advisory Committee workshop, Arowhenua Whānau Services consultation, consumer led consultation with Pasifika and the SCDHB Consumer Council. The SCDHB had also received numerous individual submissions, group submissions in addition to meetings with individuals and groups for feedback.
