Considered to be the largest archive of historic photographic paper in the world, the Lab’s collection of analog photographic papers provides unrivalled opportunities to study and conserve what has been described as “the genome of the photographic medium.” In this short ‘virtual’ recording, we meet the LML by Zoom. Paul Messier, the Pritzker Director of the Lens Media Lab and chair of the Yale Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, introduces the interdisciplinary scholars responsible for characterizing and interpreting the material history of the printed photograph – and ultimately creating a unique access point for teaching and learning at Yale and beyond.
