NEW DELHI: Amid the raging second Covid wave, state-run IndianOil on Tuesday launched biodiesel made from used cooking oil (UCO) sourced from eateries, a gamechanger that can help prevent people from serious ailments by removing reused or burnt cooking medium from the food chain and reduce oil imports.
Oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan remotely flagged off the first consignment from the company’s depot at Delhi’s Tikrikalan under the ‘randhan se indhan (from cooking to fuelling)’ scheme. He said the initiative will economically benefit the country by boosting indigenous biodiesel supply, reducing import dependence for oil and generating rural employment.
