The pandemic year has taken a lot away — and out — of everyone, but it hasn’t been able to rob Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra of its “Ruby Memories.”
The concert that wraps up conductor and music director Garrett Allman’s 40th season with the symphony still will feature a look back at the past four decades, even if it will be virtual rather than in person.
“It’s more memories of 40 years,” Allman said of Saturday’s concert. “This time it’s pops music from our pops concerts. When I was listening to all sorts of recordings preparing for the March concert, I discovered there were a lot of really good performances that were lighter pop music in our recorded library. I decided right then, ‘Well, we could do a whole program of lighter pops music sometime’. When I figured out we weren’t going to be able to do this final May concert in person, I thought, ‘let’s do this lighter program’.”
