KAHULUI — Hula Grill restaurant in Kaanapali might be most well-known for its popular beachfront location and Hula Pie dessert, but the Department of Transportation’s Highways Division also knows it as the “Hula Grill Ohana” — a community-minded employee team that has diligently cleaned up litter along Honoapiilani Highway for well over a decade. In recognition of its commitment to the Adopt-A-Highway public service program, the Hula Grill Ohana received the No Ka Oi Highway Hui Award from the State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation, Highways Division-Maui District (HWY-M). Since 2008, the volunteer team has carried out dozens of clean-ups along a section of Honoapiilani Highway near Wahikuli Wayside Park in West Maui.
