A Hands-On Pianoforte Adventure Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center is pleased to present fortepianists Kenneth Drake and Jun-Hee Han in a special workshop on the fortepiano.

Experience the instrument used by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven in their keyboard compositions! Participants will learn about the fortepiano’s development, which continued during the time of Beethoven and by the late 19th century culminated into the familiar grand piano. They will have an opportunity to play and experience the differences between the fortepiano and the contemporary piano. The workshop will also include a talk by Jun-Hee Han, who will draw comparisons between Beethoven’s musical compositions and the paintings of Beethoven’s contemporary, J.M.W. Turner. The workshop is free of charge and open to all interested individuals.
In keeping with the State’s Covid-19 protocols, the wearing of masks will be required. This workshop corresponds to a performance by Kenneth Drake at MPAC the night before, on October 29th. See MPAC's website for details.
