Teams surrounding the home, officers negotiating with the gunman for hours before they say it erupted into chaos. Both hostages shot along with the suspect and an officer. In the confusion, another officer bitten by a police k9. Were trying to make sure were saving peoples lives. So things happen, and unfortunately one of those things. Two children died when fire swept through a townhouse in linwood, washington. Neighbors heard screaming inside and threw rocks to break the windows. An 11yearold escaped the flames. He was treated for smoke inhalation, but he is okay this morning. Two adults also got out without injury. No word yet on what caused the fire, which is now under investigation. At least one person is dead and eight others hospitalized from a salmonella outbreak linked to ground beef. The cdc is warning people not to eat raw or undercooked ground beef. Wellcooked ground beef is still okay. This particular strain of salmonella causes more severe infections that can infect the blood. Ten people have become sick in at least six states. The death occurred in california. Investigators have not yet identified a Single Source or brand of ground beef. This weekend one of the nations richest horse races ended in tragedy as a top thoroughbred had to be put down. The death at the breeders cup puts the spotlight back on the santa anita racetrack, where despite reforms more than three dozen horses have died since christmas. This morning an investigation is under way after a horse died during the famous breeders cup at santa anita. The 37th horse to die at the california track since december. Mckensie and mongolian groom reporter 4yearold mongolian groom in second place before suddenly falling behind. The champion horse sustained serious injury to his left leg. The horse was taken off the racetrack in an ambulance and was later put down. In a statement on its website the breeders cup saying the death is a loss to the entire horse racing community. Santa anita park has been under scrutiny all year. Back in march the track was shut down for several weeks while the deaths were investigated. When it reopened, new protocols were put in place.
