Just in the last hour, the contra costa sheriff has released a lot of new information. As it turns out the raid at this apartment complex were showing is just one of four. I can tell you the five individuals who were arrested and where theyre from, jar kwez sweeney, 20 years old. Jason isles also 20 from marin city. In san mateo, 28yearold lebron wallace. And devin williamson, 21 years old in vallejo. Williamsson is being charged as accessory. The other four face murder and conspiracy charges. This is the Contra Costa CountySheriffs Office s. W. A. T team. Reporter this is what residents of an apartment complex woke up to this morning just after 7 00 a. M. When heavily armed police many in Tactical Gear served a warrant on their neighbors. And now theyre going in. It looked like something you see in a movie. It was police everywhere. And how they came here this morning, the level of humiliation and degradation that commenced, there is nothing that could justify that. Reporter contra costa sheriffs confirmed the arrest in the Halloween Party murders in a series of cord naughted rai in oth suspects are held without bail on murder and conspiracy charges, one as an accessory. Five people were killed as the event erupted in gunfire just before 11 00 p. M. Three others were hurt. Abc 7 has learned the violence may have stemmed from a dispute involving rival gangs including from san francisco. The Sheriffs Department wont say yet whether those arrested in marin city are believed to be among the shooters at the party. The raid was conducted by Contra Costa County but the fbi and other bay area agencies have assisted in the investigation. Arenda mayor inga miller expressed relief at the progress in the case that has shaken their community. People feel fear. They feel many emotions. They feel sadness for the victims. They feel fear for the potential of a shooting anywhere. Reporter one other bit of information from the sheriff is that two of those who died at the party were themselves armed. The families of three of the victims will be filing a lawsuit against airbnb and the Property Owner next week. Attorney john burris is representing the families. Five people are dead but three that we represent that frankly the environment that was put in place was put in place that allowed for this to occur was by airbnb and the owner of the facility. Burris says the families are pleased with news of arrest. Another victim filed a wrongful death lawsuit against airbnb, the city of arenda, the homeowners, and party organizers. To Todays School shooting at sagas high school. A 16yearold student opened fire killing two classmates aging 14 and 16 and injuring three others. Within two minutes at 7 40 our first units arrived on scene and encountered in the quad area of the school multiple victims. Detectives have reviewed the video at the scene which clearly show the subject in the quad withdraw a hand gun from his backpack, shoot and pound five people, and then shoot himself in the head. At this point we have no indication of any motivation or ideology. Authorities say the shooter turned 16 today and when shots rang out, some students barricaded themselves in classrooms. Others just ran. Two or three gunshots and everyone started running out. We heard the gunshots and we were like lets go, lets run. I turned my head and saw there was a house open letting kids in. That was my first instinct was get into the house where it was locked and secure. We crawled underneath the pipe. We heard the one shot and then four after and we just started running and then all i heard was all these kids running and just screaming and calling their parents. Its just scary because you come here every day and dont expect anything like this to happen. By one count there have been at least 30 School Shootings this year. Navigating the stress and the anxiety from the shootings, just daily life is obviously very difficult for teenagers. Abc 7 chris wynn looks at how students in san jose are doing something about it. Reporter these days being a high schooler simply isnt easy. I work two jobs because i need to pay for college. So, all of these Little Things end up building up. Reporter in addition to the everyday struggles that students face, the threat of a possible shooting at school also weighs on the minds of some. Every time i get into the classroom the first thing i look is where my seat is to the closest door. If Something Like that were to happen i have an exit plan and i dont think a High School Student should be thinking of how theyre going to save themselves. Reporter according to a rece recent Pew Research Survey teenagers see anxiety and depression. Thats why they came up with a proposal to open the districts First Student wellness cent on their campus to provide students with Mental Health support using money from a state grant. The center opened in august and served more than 450 students so far. Thats why the center is in place, to help students through issues that can cause these dangerous and volatile thoughts. The space was once part of the Attendance Office but has been transformed into a quiet and calming refuge during the school day providing students a chance to learn and practice coping strategies. Staff members are available to connect to resources including a Mental Health professional if they need additional help sending a message that its okay not to be okay. If you start realizing that other people are going through the same thing and that feeling of being alone kind of goes away a little bit and that helps make you feel better.
