When i came out of it in all of that, after four weeks of recooperating, we were doing these bears at work. The bears were to go to either the customer or left around. We started off with Santa Clara Kaiser permanente with 43 teddy bears and began going to other places as well. I had a lady help out. She took over about 50 or so. Then we started to go to sacred heart, toyo elementary, and various other places as well. We started off at 43, then a little around 200. Then last year alone was 600. But its just as vital to discuss changing symptoms as well. Take notice and take action. Discuss counts and symptoms with your doctor. Visit takeactionpv. Com announcer now news to build a better bay area from abc 7. As the bitter partisan fight over the impeachment of President Trump continues, a republican senator is expressing new concerns. Senator Lisa Murkowski of alaska says she was disturbed to hear Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell say he was in total coordination with the white house. Murkowski is the first republican in the senate to publicly criticize mcconnell. When i heard that, i was disturbed. To me it means we have to take that step back from being hand in glove with the defense. Meantime, President Trump is still in holiday in florida. He blasted House Speaker nancy pelosi slamming her district of San Francisco and criticizing her for threatening to delay his senate trial by withholding articles of impeachment from the senate. Pelosi explained in a letter to her colleagues, quote, it now remains for the senate to present the rules under which we will proceed. Of course our senators and representatives are back in their home districts over the holidays and joining me is east bay congressman mark desaulnier. We just mentioned President Trumps criticism of speaker employ si today. Thanks for coming on. My pleasure. It reads Nancy Pelosis district in california has rapidly become one of the worst anywhere in the United States when it comes to the homeless and crime. It has gotten so bad so fast she has lost total control and along with her equally incompetent governor, gavin newsom, it is a very s very sad sight. Okay. Is this a distraction from whats going on . He often criticizing california when hes pinned in. What do you make of that . Hes unhinged in my view. He attacks anyone who looks like theyll disagree with him. Unheinged or strategic. Theres a certain amount of predictability. He does this frequently. His relationship with the truth and accuracy is not a close one. Okay. You were mentioning its rather nice to be here. Obviously youre back home seeing family and friends, but just to get a break of the intensity of washington, it must be exciting on one hand and exhausting on the other. Its mostly exhausting, dan. I have a reverence for the congress. I have a reverence for democracy. And to watch up close how dysfunctional it is right now and having once been a republican when i first got elected to office 30 years ago, ill be one of the last liberal republicans, its sad to watch and develop relationships with colleagues i disagree with and have respect for. Its been difficult to watch their actions the last month or so. Do you blame both side oris just the republicans . Both sides but its not equal. Theres not a symmetry to that. I left the Republican Party because it was becoming less and less inclusive. We used to have people like earl warren and nelson rockefeller, wanted the government to work well and wanted business to work well for everybody. Theyve gotten rid of that model. Different party. Its very different party. And weve gone through this in our history in our country, counn it leads for a lot of dysfunction. Lets talk about the next step in the process. It goes to the senate of course. But this issue has been so divisive, has the process permanently damage any real hope of bipartisanship of congress in the near future . I dont think so. Really . We still get things done. Ive had over 30 legislative bills and amendments and a lot of those happen with the republicans in charge. So, below level a lot of us function well and get things done. On the big things where theres a lot of pressure, thats where it breaks apart. But what youre saying is Congress Still is working. Its just on the surface we dont necessarily see that. If we get rid of the money on the independent expenditures, it would function very well. But those things put a lot of pressure on members to adhere to the ideology. I know try to be impartial on this if you can. What do you make of nancy pelosi withholding delivering the articles of impeachment to the Senate Waiting for the rules from Mitch Mcconnell and what type of impeachment trial will be held . Is that a legitimate thing to do or more politics . I think its both. From a strategic standpoint its brilliant. I wouldnt play poker with nancy pelosi in this kind of and Mitch Mcconnell has a reputation as well for being strategic. But i think the speaker is being very strategic. And its good for the country if they have an open trial. So, it would be good for the president if he was innocent to have an open trial. And he said he wants an open trial until this moment. Thats not his actions. He says he wants to be open but then he fights on every subpoena or request for information. You said this is brilliant by the speaker. Explain why. I think weve done what we ethically are responsible for in spite of what republicans are saying we had open hearings and depositions. He could have brought witnesses there. He could have allowed witnesses to come. We would have allowed that in the indictment process. Hes allowed to do that in the senate trial and now hes saying he wont. So, everything weve asked to has had to go to the courts. What was that process like being in the impeachment hearings in the house. It was obviously american history, the third president ever to have this process waged against him. What was it like to participate in that . As a congressman but as an american. On the rules committee which im a member when he the articles come in front of us, i started by saying its a sad day. None of us wanted to be there but the president put us in that position. I dont think we could have done anything else. He broke a federal law in my view and he clearly is abusing his power. You cant youve got to do what the founders want us to do is to hold people accountable. Now hold people accountable but no one believes that a senate trial will end up with the president being removed from office so, whats the point . Because this is the remedy the founders gave us. My question of my colleagues is my own belief system is he likes to break rules and hes going to break more. He made this phone call the day after the Mueller Report came out and he thought he was clear. So, hes going to do it again. What do you do when he does something more outrageous . So, theres no choice but to take action . I think so and i hope we get more support. Thanks. My pleasure. Always nice to see you. Interesting discussion. Lets get over to drew tuma. He is tracking the weatherer and the sunshine we have today. Beautiful sunshine will lead to a clear night, plenty of stars on the way. Does get chilly, upper 20s to upper 30s in most of our communities the next 12 hours. Its a cold start to the day, but nice finish. Temperatures rebounding into mid and upper 50s. If you have to travel tomorrow across the state, much better regulator across the entire part of northern and Southern California. You can see sunshine no matter where you go. No inclimate weather. Accuweather 7 day forecast for the next 7 days, mostly sunny tomorrow. Cold start to saturday. Then well return the chance of rain sunday night into monday morning. Researchers say this way of eating can reduce blood od od pressure, aid in weight lost. Alternating between fasting and eating can improve cellular help and prevent Heart Disease and cancer. I tried this. Remember i tried this last year. I would quit eating at 8 00 at night and not again until noon the next day. Its hard on our schedule because were not even home until midnight. Its true. But, you know, were also asleep for a lot of it. From midnight until 10 00 in the morning. Its not a lot of fun, but i did lose some weight and i woke up with a lot of energy. Of course i didnt sustain that. They have now found that health is not dependent on actual losing weight. Activity can make you healthy in itself. You mean exercise . Yes. Im always hungry right after work. Thats my downfall. Always. I am too. I am too. So, its hard to resist. Itll be interesting what the long term studies show on that. Thats a good point. Weve all seen the videos, delivery drivers not taking the best care of your packages. This driver in troy, michigan tops them all. Surveillance video catches him placing a package in front of the back tire then repeatedly driving over it. This after knocking on the door with no answer. The video shows the truck driver coming back around, driving over the package again. It was an amazon delivery, most likely a third party driver since the truck didnt have markings. Amazon did replace the item. It was a garage door opener. They did not comment on the driver. They didnt comment on that driver . Hes mad. Obviously he has some kind of emotional problem. Once is like oops, but to repeatedly. What did that homeowner do . The fact nobody was home, ill show you. A life long 49ers fan from antioch got a big surprise from christmas. The audiences have been really enthusiastic and San Francisco is such a fun city to be in. Theres always a Cirque Du Soleil show coming through. Tell us about the background and what inspired the show. It is based off shakespeares the tempest and the main theme is about female empowerment. Cirque du soleil wanted it to be slightly different in that we have a majority female cast and were the only show to have an allfemale band as well including the music director. So, its pretty special to show case the female in all types of abilities. And yeah. Were going to see some of that live in studio now, right . We are. The balance is one thing, but just the strength. Are these some of the routines we would see in the show . Yes. Wow. This isnt like we were talking before we came out. You guys have multiple shows. And then got a scholarship to a school in the states. So, im from vancouver, canada. Okay. Which i went to Oregon State University and competed for that team. And got a scholarship there. So, that was really exciting. And then after that, i was kind of like im not quite done flipping around. You obviously age out of this profession at some point. Eventually but i think a lot of people would be surprised on how many artists are older than they think they are. Really . Yes. You guys must work out. Every time i go i love Cirque Du Soleil shows. As you know. Ive seen so many of them. And every time im amazed at the artistry, also the athleticism. And i think every time i watch these i think i should do more sit ups. Or stretching at least. Its impressive. Thank you. It really is. We do have a conditioning coach who is also one of our artists so they host trainings every once a week or twice a week. But then also individually. Everyones pretty reliable on themselves and keep each other accountable for what you need to do. We know what our bodies can take. Dear santa, i dont want anything for christmas, but im asking for my brother. Started in october. And it was the one or two. And i didnt think anything of it in october. But then when it was getting closer to thanksgiving and the mailman would come with stacks of letters to be with a side eye just like trying to shove it in the mailbox. We felt like we had to do something about it. Last year we ate at a soup kitchen, is to can you send at least a turkey. There wasnt a single moment where i knew i had to activate. It was the collective of reading all of these letters over and over again. We threw a 1960s Holiday Party. It was a fantastic party. But organically people had started to see the letters stacked up in the corner of our apartment. They were like ill just take one. It was remarkable when we first saw one because even on the front you could see dear santa. So, it just had this magic to it. We had no idea how they got there. That area back in the 1800s, it was sort of sections off, the area between 23rd, 8th and 9th into a place called chelsea square. That was owned by Clement Clark moore who famously who twas the night before christmas and all through the house. People thought he was santa and delivered letters to his estate. Do you know those letters still come to that apartment. I think its sweet. I think its weird we dont know where they came from or where they get this address. Theres so many. When we got the first letter it was exciting. Like oh my gosh, this is real. These kids think that our address is the north pole. And its sweet to think we can have a little part in helping a kid get all of their santa wishes. We felt the need to act. We got a bunch of our friends and family in our community to get together and created a nonprofit called miracle on 22nd street. And every year we connect families in need to elves. Its extremely simple, jump on to miracle on 22nd street. Com and you can sign up to become an elf. And you could look around to see which letter strikes your heart and adopt that family. We have a lot of different streams coming in for the letters now. It used to be just the brown stone in chelsea but then we have a big Facebook Group where they can sign up on our site. So, they submit letters, upload them. So, we are fulfilling letters throughout the United States. When you are forced upon Something Like this, something so big that heres 400 letters to santa, i think it really tests you. Thats one of the things that happen to me. I felt this overwhelming sense of have to get this done. Have to get all these filled whats come out of that is i know we didnt get all of them filled that first year, but now every year we do fulfill every letter. And so its nice. Last year we had over 500 letters that were fulfilled. So, 500 families got the things they needed and got an amazing holiday which is thats pretty amazing. Gosh, thats so sweet. It really is.
