First, though, the major news, america is now dealing with three Straight Days of record high totals of new coronavirus cases. The daily number of confirmed infections reaching more than 45,000. Two of the largest states, texas and florida, now reversing course and reinstating restrictions. And Vice President mike pence held his first Coronavirus Task force briefing in nearly two months on friday. The Vice President optimistic saying, we have made remarkable progress while leading Health Experts made a plea to americans begging for everyone to social distance, wash your hands and wear masks. Wear your masks. And this surge in cases has also seen a rise in the number of young people infected. For more on that, were going to turn to trevor ault who is in atlanta. Trevor, good morning to you. Reporter well, dan, good morning. You know, were seeing that surge popping up in several spots around the country. This morning, coronavirus cases surging in parts of the united states. The country logging three Straight Days of record high totals as the death toll rises above 125,000. Despite those figures, Vice President mike pence touted what he called encouraging news the u. S. Was opening safely. We have made truly remarkable progress. Reporter dr. Anthony fauci warned the u. S. Will be seeing more deaths. Again, urging people to social distance and wear masks. Weve got to realize that we are part of the process. Reporter florida reporting a staggering 8,900 cases friday, Governor Ron Desantis waved it off as a test dump and says he will not mandate wearing masks. But in miami the mayor is now requiring masks and bars there and across the state are now closed. Texas bars have met the same fate. Part of a statewide reopening reversal. In harris county, home of houston, officials have instituted a code red threat level urging everyone only to leave home for groceries or medicine. In arizona, several bars and restaurants are electing to close to keep crowds away, and multiple Hospital Systems are activating their surge plans. In california, hospitalizations, icu admissions and deaths were all up on friday. Miamimar making it mandatory to wear your mask every time you leave the house, and the latest abc news ipsos poll shows the majority of americans are wearing their masks, but now several months into this pandemic, the number of americans who are concerned about contracting this virus is on the rise. Whit. All right, trevor, our thanks to you. And amid this time of crisis president trumps disapproval rating is now hitting 58 . Thats the highest in three years according to an npr pbs Newshour Marist poll. We turn to rachel scott for more on that. Rachel, good morning. Reporter whit, good morning. At that task force briefing, the Vice President tried to put a positive spin on the surge in cases saying the u. S. Has made progress. But the nations leading Infectious Disease expert dr. Anthony fauci made a plea to americans asking them to wear a face mask, to continue to social distance and while the Vice President did point to the rise in cases among Young Americans he also defended those largescale Campaign Rallies and events. The president packing thousands of people into an arena in oklahoma and then thousands of young supporters inside of a church in arizona. No social distancing at either event. Many of his supporters not wearing a mask and we are learning that aop white house economist, Thomas Philipson has tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this month. He will be leaving his post soong but is now the third person here in the white house complex that has tested positive for covid19. We know several Campaign Staffers have as well. Dozens are in quarantine today after attending the president s rally last week. Guys . Rachel, thank you so much. Coming up, a very different kind of story. West is expanding his yeezy clothing line for a tenyear deal with the company. While yeezy typically retails for hundreds of dollars, this line will be more affordable and provide, quote, elevated basics for men, women and children at accessible price points. The rapper and designer confirmed the partnership on twitter with the simple westdayever and gap would certainly agree. The companys stock soaring after the announcement was made and, of course, if youre a kanye west fan, you probably know this isnt the first time that west had ties with gap. He actually worked in a gap store as a teen growing up in chicago. He raps about it on the song song spaceship on his debut album college dropout. That line is expected to launch early next year. So thats some exciting news. All right, meanwhile, Margot Robbie is setting sail. The star is set to lead a new female fronted pirates of the caribbean movie. That would be written by christina hodson. Shes the screenwriter on robbies birds of prey and while the story is familiar, this isnt intended to be a t most lucrative of all time. Rather, its a separate story with entirely new characters, so we will be on the lookout to see who is cast next in that. Okay, this one, one delaware amazon worker is delivering a whole bunch of laughs with her packages. It all started when lynns 13yearold son jacob secretly set the default delivery instructions to say, quote, get this, knock on the door three times and scream abracadabra as loud as you can and run super fast away. So jacob didnt think that anyone would actually follow his instructions, but he was wrong. Look at this. Abracadabra. So funny. That amazon worker taking the guidance to heart. The whole family cracking up when they heard it and saw that video. Hilarious delivery on facebook. It has over 2 million views and counting. I saw that on social media last week and was dying laughing, guys. I love that. I love when kids mess with your technology. Oo myk my pne the other day in the backyard and buried it under grass. Thats his way of getting back. Abracadabra, dan. Exactly. Made it vanish. Heres a magic trick. Pull out your phone. Thanks, janai. Now to our gma cover story. After one woman struggled with infertility, her 51yearold mom stepped in to be her surrogate. Take a look. Brianna and Aaron Lockwood are expecting their first child, a baby girl in november. [ laughter ] but their journey to become parents has been anything but typical. The baby is being carried by a surrogate, briannas mom. Theres not a safer place i could imagine my baby to grow than my own body than my mom who is, you know, by my side through all of this. Reporter for more than two years, the lockwoods struggled to conceive seeing fertility specialists, undergoing multiple rounds of ivf, but after several miscarriages, their doctor finally suggested surrogacy. It was briannas mom, 51yearold julie loving, who volunteered to be their surrogate. I had really easy pregnancies with my two kids, and i feel Pretty Healthy for a 51yearold. Reporter the lockwoods were skeptical, so was their fertility doctor. At first i wasnt really sure. She approached me multiple times about carrying our child, and i had kind of just told her no over and over. I didnt think it was possible. Reporter but loving was cleared to carry the pregnancy after being examined by several specialists. Including an highrisk obstetrician and psychologist. In february their first embryo transfer attempt was a success. We had so much trauma in the past with our losses and struggling with infertility that, you know, my moms almost 20 weeks now, and im just starting to let my guard down. Be to see breanna excited. And aaron become parents, that e st. And we a now by our abc wshi medical corrpodetails on this r story. Dr. Jen, first i think we need to talk about what are the risks when a woman in her 50s is a surrogate . Well, im still emotionally choked up just watching that story, eva. I mean, listen, right now i think there are 50yearolds who are as healthy or even healthier than some 30yearolds. But 50 is still 50 and so along with that does go some obstetric risks for the mom and baby so theyre at increased risk of diabetes during pregnancy, high blood pressure, theres an increase risk of miscarriage and csection, and there can also be problems with the placenta but, again, with high risk ob management or involved closer followup, it can be done, absolutely. And hearing their story, its a reminder there are so many women struggling with infertility. What are some other options for women out there . Well, i think its important to get proactive and shift that paradigm from infertility to fertility, so think about it in your 20s, even though you might not want to become a parent until much later, we have to remember that it affects both parts of the couple, not just the woman who is trying to get pregnant. And then i always remind people, there are multiple paths to becoming a parent that sometimes may include Something Like surrogacy, but it could also include a adoption or foster parenting and, eva, sometimes the biology is actually the least of what makes someone a parent. So very true. Dr. Jen, thank you so much for being with us this morning. Lets get a check of our b. Ather now and turn it over t heyeva, good morning again. I taedbo t dust across parts of the south. That coupled with some heat in florida, 99 degrees yesterday in tampa. Thats an alltime record high and temperatures today will be similar. With humidity, of course, it will feel like up and over 100 in sarasota, 102 in ft. Myers and 99 in west palm beach. All right, a little pattern change in the west but with that front that will cool things off its increasing the wio with that and low levels of humidity red flag warnings and critical fire danger for the next few days across parts of the southwest and then the cooler air will move in. But until then it will be a little bit dicey and dangerous. But look at these numbers as they cool off from triple digits to the mid90s. Tucson and phoenix, that is certainly cool for this time of year, so there is at least that to look forward to. Thats a check on the National Weather headlines. Time for a good saturday morning, san jose nice and sunny and even mild to start out for our east bay valleys as well. But the winds kicking up today bringing cooler conditions for the entire weekend. In fact, with a windier sunday on tap we will increase our fire danger. By the time we get to monday numbers rebound but nothing too extremely 71 san mateo, 71 in napa, lookoo in the next half hour, robs suburban safari which means the ducklings that we were waiting to see hatched have done so. Well have that video in the next half hour. What do you think about that, guys, wild kingdom in connecticut . Its always a wild kingdom with you, rob marciano. That much we know for sure.
