New Zealand Olympic Committee chief executive Kereyn Smith was pleased with the decision to have the wool-fibre masks and said the safety of the team was of "utmost importance”. “Lanaco is a fantastic New Zealand company creating world-leading technology, which is helping to keep our team safe,” Smith said. Lanaco provided 70,000 reusable, bio-degradable and disposable face masks for the team. It worked with the New Zealand Olympic Committee and medical staff to develop the mask. Company chief executive Nick Davenport said wool's electrostatic properties caught small harmful particles, while its protein structure captured gases and harmful toxins. The Helix filter is bacteria and flame resistant.
