72 KKR has reportedly raised its biggest ever fund by hauling in $18.5bn for its new North America vehicle in less than five months. The private equity firm reportedly turned away billions of dollars for North America Fund XIII, which had attracted $24bn of commitments, Reuters reported, citing unnamed people it said were familiar with the matter. It said a formal fundraise close is expected in the next few weeks. Its previous biggest fundraise was the $17.6bn 2006 fund, which it closed just before the global financial crisis came down hard on the size of the biggest buyouts. Reuters said the fund is the first to be raised by Pete Stavros and Nate Taylor as co-heads of KKR’s Americas private equity business.
