Youve seen the video, ive seen the video. A local news crew from wdbj ambushed by a gunman as they interview a woman live on television. The video is incredibly disturbing to watch. We arent showing it in its entirety. The victims have been identified now as a 24yearold reporter Alison Parker and 27yearold photo journalist adam ward. To say this is a shocking occurrence is an understatement. We want to get right to justice correspondent pete williams. What do we know . Good morning, savannah. This happened at 6 45 at a shopper center 25 miles southeast of roanoke. The reporter, the one you just identified Alison Parker was killed, just turned 24. The photographer, adam ward was killed shlgs he was 27. She was broadcasting on the air interviewing the director of a local chamber of commerce about tourism when suddenly gunshots rang out apparently coming from behind where the cameraman was standing. Were not showing the entire sequence which cuts back to the anchor in the studio but eight gunshots can be heard. Both the victims are from the roanoke area and went to virginia schools and colleges. There are conflicting reports on whether the woman who was being interviewed, Vickie Gardner, how serious her injury is. She was injured in the shooting, taken to a local hospital. Police and sheriffs deputies are scouring the area for whoever fired the shots. Jeff marks of wdbj announced the deaths on the air and asked how this individual could rob the families of their lives and loves. No idea why the shoot took place though. The video may offer a clue because the camera shows a brief glimpse of who fire the shot, apparently holding a hand gun, police in new york city are sending units to television stations there. It was very early in the morning. Youd have to wonder how this gunman would even know that this reporter and this Television Crew would be at this location. This is a shopping mall, the mall would not have been open yet, so the amount of pedestrian traffic would have been extremely limited. So Law Enforcement as they consider the motive have to try to make a decision was this targeted at the reporter and her cameraman . Was this targeted against the person they were interviewing . I mean, how does this guy wind up at 6 45 this morning dressed in dark clothing with a gun in his hand and as you suggest in the video, watch the whole video, the cameraman appears to get shot first and drops the camera and takes this picture that we see of the believed shooter and then shoots one if not the other two people killing two perhaps wounding one and runs off. As you know, motive is not what Law Enforcement needs at this second. They need a picture, they need a name. They need a vehicle. They can figure out the motive later but right now this guy presents a threat to the community and to Law Enforcement should any cops stop him and try to figure out who he is and what hes up to today. Speaking of that very thing, we put the image up on the air. Its just a passing glance at the suspect we believe. Is that enough, clint . Do you think somebody could be watching that and say, that looks like someone i know . I think if you combine this, savannah and surveillance cameras that would normally be at a mall, surveillance cameras that would take pictures of cars in the parking lot and witnesses that were on the scene, we put all of this together and were going to come up with a verbal as well as pick torial picture of who this is. Weve got to put him in a vehicle. Was he by himself, with someone else . Once they get their hands on him, theyll figure out why he committed this terrible act.
