And for the second time in a week its happened at a military base. Its the Naval Air Station in pennsylvania. Pete williams has the latest. Lets get right to him. Pete, what are you hearing this morning . Its all over now but the first calls came at about 6 30 this morning and the facility was put on lock down. The navy and the county sheriffs say the person that fired the shots is now dead and the navy says two people died as a result of the mass shooting in addition to the gunman. Theres conflicting reports on the number of people injured. Area hospitals say theyre treating or expecting to treat a total of eight people but no word yet on the extend of their injuries and we dont know the identity of the person that did the shooting although theres some local news reports that it was a sailor on active duty. Naval air station pennsylvania is a huge facility. 16,000 military personnel are there and 7,400 civilians work there too. Theyre helping with the forensic investigation as the job of reconstructing what happened will be a big chore given the number of shots that were fired. This is the second shooting this week on a u. S. Naval base. A sailor in pearl harbor in hawaii killed two civilian employees before taking his own life. The navy isnt said what the motive was so one obvious question will be whether todays shooting was somehow connected to that one. Pete williams on the breaking news, thank you. Now to yet another deadly shooting in florida. This one near miami. It all started yesterday when two suspects tried to rob a Jewelry Store. That lead to a hostage situation. A high speed chase at rush hour and a deadly shoot out on a busy street during the afternoon commute. Morgan is in coral gables with details on that investigation. Hey, morgan, good morning. Reporter good morning, not only did this case last 30 miles but it essentially played out on Live Television all of it starting when two men tried to rob this Jewelry Store, only the armed owner opened fire, sending the two men running for covering, looking for a get away car. They found it with a ups truck, the driver still inside. The wild gun battle played out on a highway near miami in rush hour traffic. Police chasing two armed men who opened fire from a stolen ups truck. It was pretty surreal. It was crazy. Reporter the frightening scene broadcast on live tv set in motion 30 minutes earlier when police say the two men tried to rob a Jewelry Store. The owner had other plans opening fire on the suspects who shot back, wounding one woman before running off. They hi jacked a ups truck and kidnapped the driver. What followed was a 30 mile chase in northern miami, as the suspects dodged traffic, swirling down sidewalks and breaking through a neighborhood barricade. When police eventually closed in, the suspects unleashed a barrage of bullets. There was exchange fired between Law Enforcement and the suspects and unfortunately the suspects are now deceased but two additional nsf civilians were also deceased. Reporter one of the civilians killed, ups driver frank ordonez, a 27yearold father of two young girls. His family says thursday was one of his first days driving a new route. His devastated stepfather speaking out overnight. When you saw that video, you knew . I knew he was dead. He wasnt moving. For this to happen i think is just unnecessary. Other tactics should have been applied and they werent, so when i say the word devastated, its an understatement. Just so tragic and morgan, what about the second civil who was killed. Do we know how that occurred, what happened during the shootout. Reporter a photo from the shootout scene shows whats believed to be the second victim sitting inside a car hundreds of feet away from the ups truck. As for the circumstances surrounding it, police stress that the suspects opened fire first giving the officers no other option but to return fire and important to note at this point in the investigation, its still unclear who shot whom.
