Drivers to slow down, especially with all these people out on the roadway. To be clear, oaklands slow streets is not to close any city streets, rather to limit traffic to locals only on certain residential streets and quarters. That means if youre driving in your own neighborhood, maybe getting a delivery to your home, those are okay, that is local only. This will apply to 74 miles of oakland streets, as you mentioned. Thats 10 of the citys roadways. Were taking this opportunity to try some new things. Oaklanders are very anxious right now, and really trying hard to adjust to a radically different reality. In san jose, leaders are looking ahead to see how they can get the economy back up and running. We spoke with san jose mayor sam liccardo earlier on today in the bay. He said the city needs to prepare for the worst when theyre trying to find Financial Stability after the pandemic. The depth of the kind of cuts well have to make will probably exceed even what we saw during the Great Recession based on the magnitude of these deficits. We all hope there may be federal money that could help or things may turn in different ways in the economy. Mayor liccardo says that the government is providing resources for those in need during the pandemic through Silicon Valley strong. But thousands of families still need help. Easter weekend is here. A live look at the golden gate bridge. A beautiful sight, the sun is shining. A lot different than earlier this morning. Kari hall is working from home and is giving us an update on the forecast. As we check out our temperatures, were right now in the low 60s in concord and napa. Were on the low 60s for those highs as we go into this afternoon as well. Well continue to see our highs going up into the upper 60s. It looks really nice, still upper 50s along the coastline. As you make your way inland, youre looking at some upper 60s and low 70s. So well talk about our trend as we go into the next several days, well take a look at our easter weekend forecast coming up a little bit later, marcus. Thank you, kari. New intelligence is bringing up questions over what and when china knew about the coronavirus outbreak. The concerns now being raised. But first, something good. Landmarks across the nation are showing support for Health Care Workers on the front lines. Take a look here, levis stadium, and an iconic landmark in new york city lit up in blue last night. We applaud them as well. Well be right back. Welcome back for you. One question a lot of people are having, over how china handled the coronavirus outbreak. Nbcs keir simmons reports from london. Officials telling nbc news they picked up intelligence in november that indicated there could be a Public Health issue, possibly an outbreak in wuhan, china. And with china now claiming few new cases and even fewer deaths, the u. S. Intelligence official tells us even now the white house has been briefed to be skeptical of chinas reporting. Their numbers seem to be a little bit on the light side. And im being nice when i say that. Reporter but chinese officials assert china has always been open, transparent, and responsible in its efforts. One study found chinas lockdown in january did delay the global spread of the virus. But earlier in january the World Health Organization tweeted that chinese authorities had found no clear evidence of human to human transmission, sparking questions about whether the organization was too trusting of the country. The White House Task force last week explaining their analysis of the early reports out of china. The medical community made interpreted the chinese data as, this was serious but smaller than anyone expected, because i think probably we were missing a significant amount of the data, now that we see what happened to italy and spain. Reporter we reached out to the Chinese Ambassador in washington who declined an interview. Keir simmons, nbc news, london. Health care workers on the front lines battling covid19 are at higher risk of being infected. One nurse at Kaiser PermanenteMedical Center is sharing her experience after testing positive. She says her symptoms worsened shortly after she first started feeling sick. Probably a few days after i was really short of breath. It was hard to walk around the house for more than a minute or two at a time, i guess you would say lower rib cage pain, some stomach pain, and i had a headache that lasted gosh, i want to say maybe seven or eight days, and it was really bad. Brenee has recovered and is continuing to selfquarantine as a precaution. She says when approved, shell head back to the front lines to help. We spoke with south lake tahoes mayor Jason Collins on today in the bay. Hes asking people who own a second home there, and visitors, to stay where they are. We just dont have the resources, we have a small Health Care System and theyre doing a great job managing the impacts of covid19 and are preparing for it to escalate. Its starting to look nice and sunny out there. Yes, it is, and we still have to remember that a lot of our parks are closed. You cannot get out there. Its always recommended that you stay in your neighborhood and also keep that social distance. I know its going to be hard out there with all this beautiful weather. In fact as we take a live look out there in lafayette, were starting to see still some clouds but some peeks of sunshine. Thats what were expecting going into the rest of the day. As we head over towards martinez, our temperatures will be in the upper 60s for the middle of the afternoon. It feels very comfortable, if youre at home open up those windows for fresh air, but keep in mind theres a high pollen count. And well see that as more trees and grasses start to populate those allergens into the air. Heres a look at our temperatures into the day. Well reach into the low 70s in concord and antioch. Were looking at low 70s in parts of the north bay. Were seen the storm system over Southern California still bringing rain around san diego. Weve been watching out for the possibility of some flooding, because this storm system has been parked there for the past several days. It has not moved, but it is slowly making its way out. Thats why were starting to get clearing here after some Early Morning rain moved through the bay area. That was all also associated with this storm system. If youre going to be grilling today, hanging out in the backyard, enjoying your friday, in santa rosa well see temperatures in the upper 60s at dinner time or as youre grilling. I think if youre having dinner around 6 00 to 7 00, its going to start to cool off, down into the low 60s. You may want to take that plate and head inside. As you look at what were expecting for the next a couple of weeks, weve seen our temperature trend really starting to warm up. Were seeing that in the forecast. So the Climate Prediction Center came out with an outlook of what were expecting for the next couple of weeks. Were looking at a big ridge of High Pressure thats going to warm up our temperatures well above normal. As we even take a look at this sevenday temperature trend, were seeing that too. Some upper 60s today. Thats about where we should be. Low 70s for tomorrow, thats also very normal. But then as we go into the end of the weekend into next week, well start to see our temperatures heating up. Were talking about some upper 70s, wouldnt be surprised if we even saw some 80degree temperatures by the end of this forecast. And it may not be til the end of next weekend when we get some rain again. Were looking at seven days of some dry weather here. San francisco in the low 60s, ten trending into the mid60s by the end of this sevenday forecast. So were in for a big warmup, marcus, into the next several days. Now that that rain is cleared, were going to finally get some sunshine in time for the weekend. Now back to you. I welcome it. Thank you. Coming up for you, dmv offices are closed statewide. The San Francisco department of Public Health issued an order saying failure to comply constitutes an imminent threat and creates an immediate menace to Public Health. Many of us felt that there wasnt enough scrutiny in making sure that the cases that were being booked actually were truly emergencies. Reporter staffers say they became even more worried when someone in the operating room tested positive for covid. This is absolutely the wrong thing to do, to do elective surgery. Reporter dr. Reporter a study found out of 138 patients, more than 40 were infected while in the hospital. Nearly 30 of those infected were medical staff. Why would a surgeon continue to do these kind of surgeries and why would a hospital allow it . Well, you know, there are financial rewards for Health Systems. Reporter so youre saying its about money. That may be one motivation. Reporter an analysis of more than 1 Million Medicare cases shows hospitals earned on average 700 more for each patient for an elective procedure than those admitted through the emergency department. Postponing elective surgeries could cost hospitals buildings of dollars. The Health Systems of the surgeons who are choosing to operate are mitigating financial impact, but thats irresponsible and in my opinion unethical. Reporter both kaiser and uc davis freely admitted they are doing elective surgeries but said they are following cdc guidelines and only doing procedures that are time sensitive. A Sutter Health spokesperson says their hospitals are rescheduling surgeries that can be postponed. They are moving forward with elective surgeries that they decide are urgent. Ladies, we made it through another week at home together. Danni, youre so right, it has been a struggle at times but i think were all starting to get the hang of this new normal routine. Lets start off with some fun for the weekend in time for easter. We have an eggcellent project for you. Its springtime so its the perfect time to create an eggshell garden. And here to help us with that is emily and lila, hi, you two. Hi, malou. Great to see you. So, eggshell garden, huh . How do you do that . Were going to create an eggshell garden with a few things. We need some seeds, we need some rocks, some soil, and you can use some eggshells. You may have been scrambling some eggs, you can save your eggshells, and add some things to make a garden. Whats the first thing you do . We put a rock on the bottom, ill have lila help me, to create a little bit of drainage on the bottom. And then we can add some soil to it. Lila, you want to add some soil . Nice. And then we can add some seeds. We can add a seed, a few seeds to each one. So we can use we can make herb seeds in there or use seeds to make little flowers. Anything little. We did, for ours, for our demo, we did a fairy garden mix which includes some forgetmenots and poppy seeds. We add some more soil. Super fun. And then at the end we can spray it. Lila, do you want to spray it . Spray some water on there and give it a little bit of water to get it started. And thats all there is. How long before they start growing . It depends on the seed. It will take a few weeks for the little seedlings to start making roots and growing. When it outgrows its shell, you can plant it right into the garden. Its compostable. That way you dont have to transplant it, just put it right into the garden or a pot. I used to see in my grandmothers garden, eggshells in with the potted plants. The eggshells add calcium to the soil which helps things grow. You can add some color to your shells, you could dye your egg before you crack it open. That only takes a few minutes with some water and some dye into a glass, put that inadvertent for a few minutes, take it out, let it dry, crack open the eggs, use the contents for scrambled eggs, then you can plant that for some color. Nice. Lila, you want to hold one up for me . Can you grab one . Lets see. There you go. Beautiful job there, lila, thank you so much for helping out. An eggshell garden. Im good at scrambled eggs, im not good at planting an eggshell project. Take care, happy spring. Wow, malou, those are great ideas. We hope we can still enjoy some of the traditions of easter. Have a great weekend. Happy easter, happy passover, see you later. Step by step, were going to figure this out. Were gonna find a way through this. Were working really, really hard in hospitals, our nurses, our techs, all the docs. Its about staggering when people get sick so that the hospitals can cope. Were gonna go through an awful lot of these. All across puget sound, people have been stepping up and donating personal protective equipment. We stay at work. For you. You stay at home for us. Just know were all with you. Thank you, thank you so much. Thank you doctors nurses. If you were looking for some sunshine this Easter Sunday weekend, youre in luck. Meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the forecast for us. Kari, looks like its going to be a sunny one. Yes, it will be a very nice weekend. In fact the storm system that brought us all of the rain throughout the week and the clouds has now moved out. As we take a look at our view at muir beach overlook, trails are closed, facilities are closed, and parking lots are closed. Do not drive here. But what we can do is look at our live cameras, or look back at our pictures from when we visited these spots before. But keep in mind theyre advising you to stay in your neighborhoods for the weekend, even though the weather will be really nice, dont get in your car and drive to see it. Were getting breaks in the clouds, were starting to see sunshine coming through and its looking very nice as we head towards this lunch hour. Looking at San Francisco, were seeing more sunshine here after a cloudy start to the day. And then our temperatures will head into the upper 60s and low 70s. In the north bay, were up to 70 degrees in ukiah. Well also see some upper 60s for many of our spots for the inland areas as well going into the weekend. So we have seen a lot of changes here over the past several days. In fact it was a cool start to the week. Were also watching whats happening elsewhere across the country. And so there was a big surge of some cool air thats been pushing across parts of the midwest now into the south. And this weekend, in the south, theyre looking out for the possibility that there could be a big, severe storm outbreak. This is mainly for louisiana, alabama, mississippi, moving over toward georgia as well. If you have family in some of those spots make sure you know they will need to keep an eye on the weather. Weve seen much cooler temperatures inducing into some of the areas where theyre also sheltering in place. As we bring it back home, if youre planning an Easter Egg Hunt tomorrow morning or sunday morning, maybe in the backyard with your kids, its going to be really nice. A little cool to start. Both days well see temperatures starting out in the mid50s. And then warming up into the mid60s going into the middle of the day into the afternoon. So we are looking at some, once again, changes ahead in our forecast, as well see a warmup here with our inland areas in the upper 60s and low 70s, then making it into the upper 70s next week. And for San Francisco, some low 60s for today and tomorrow. Then some mid60s in the rest of the forecast. Its going to feel very much like spring. And the rain that weve had recently moving out, we may not see any more rain until next weekend. So enjoy the fresh air and the comfortable temperatures this weekend. And well have more news coming up for you after the break. Teammates help each other find a way to win, just like covered california helps you find Health Insurance you can afford.
