Yeah, ive got 377 people in quarantine, starting we just wrapped for a week, we shoot a a show for two weeks, go home for a week, come back two more weeks. Tting ready to start our final show so everybody is home right now they check in tomorrow, retest tomorrow and well go from there. Its like adult summer camp. I was telling them, guys, i know youre all here, beautiful, young, single people i can protect you from the covid but i cant protect you from the clap. You have to handle this yourself jimmy i can only do so much cant do that, cant do that jimmy are you maintaining the pace youre always doing or are things moving a little slower no, no, we havent slowed down my crew i had to have a a smaller crew so our moves take longer, but were rocking and roller we have movies in the evening on the lawn. We have four, five different food trucks. We have an alcohol truck its really were enjoying it as were working it jimmy gosh, that is fantastic. I got some news recently that youre going to receive the governors award at this years emmys ceremony what does that mean to you wouldnt you know it they do it in a year where everything is virtual im like, i dont give a damn. You tell me where it is, im showing up in full haz mat suit ly be there. Its such an incredible honor. To think that the governors would consider me for this is beyond im blown away jimmy you deserve the recognition for everything youre doing ive got to say, during this pandemic, and you have really been looking out for othering and helping people, even just your donations youre giving to individuals, you cover grocery bills for the elderly. You help local restaurant workers. Why is it important for you to give directly to the people . Well, just look around at how much direct anger and sadness and division and everybody is going everybody is grabbing a color and going to a corner. So i wanted to inspire people. I felt like if i do it, it will inspire people to stop so much of this division and come together where change happens is in the middle so every time im giving, i hope im inspiring somebody else to do the same. Jimmy i saw that and i was like oh, im going to get delivery even if i want want delivery and just tip the person ill put it in the freezer, just to keep people get and get it moving. I read a beautiful essay that you wrote for People Magazine in the wake of George Floyds murder it was very powerful and moving what is it like for you to sit down and write that . Did you say i have to do something or did somebody ask you to . No, that was hard i was so troubled by by his death. And i when i started to put pen to paper, i had a flood of emotion. I was in tears by the time i got through the first couple of sentences. I didnt realize how much i had been carrying and how much of it for so long and what happened out of all of that tragedy, seeing all races galvanized together to stand up against police brutality, it was it was really moving and inspiring on so many levels. So i was glad to see that. Because thats when change happens. Black and brown people are only 12 to 14 of the population so we need everyone to make a change happen. So to see us coming together, thats together as one, not being divided and pitted against each other jimmy two months after writing it, where is your head at now well, ive got to tell you, i was really hopeful in the beginning, because i thought, okay, everybody is galvanized, this is what is going to be great. What im seeing now troubles me its being weaponized. Black lives matter is being pulled apart and ripped here what i tell people about my life and what ive done, two years ago when a white Police Officer was shot in the head for trying to stop a a shoplifter, i reached out to his family to help them. With george floyd and rashard brooks and this 8yearold that was killed, i reached out to do what i could to help its not about race, but what you do and who you are as a human being. And humanity is real for all of us i was trying to make sure that we all know that humanity comes if all shapes and sizes. And you have to treat people as if theyre human beings rather than if theyre dismissing them because of their race or whatever jimmy yeah, i think yeah, we can do better was the big point that i think was getting out there. I just hope that we keep having these conversations until there is actual change thats the point. Having the conversation. If everybody is going to their corners and taking up arms, nothing happens. We have to come to the middle and have hard conversations, uncomfortable conversations. Thats what we need to do. I think as long as were doing that, were going to see some great things continue to move forward. Lets talk about Tyler Perrys Madeas farewell play. We talked about this its streaming on b. E. T.
