Here in the bay area, uc Berkeley Students came together on campus to support the palestinians. It was a large demonstration. The chief supports the reforms, but he says the challenge is the longtime staffing crisis, and bonta says the staffing issue is no excuse for failing to make the required changes. Just over a week ago our investigative units testing 911 made national headlines. Our Investigative Reporter joins us with a new announcement from the fcc. The federal Communications Says its considering several solutions. They are meeting this thursday to talk about pus possible new rules. This announcement came from fcc chairwoman, and this is something the fcc has been working on. Although it doesnt directly relate to 911, the discussions will be about solving emergency communication accessibility issues. This would help address a problem we uncovered with our text to 911 system in california and across the country. When you text 911, the system can take longer to locate you compared to voice calls. For some, like the deaf, texting is their only option and they rely on thirdparty applications. Over the years i choose to stay home instead of going out because knowing that i dont have access to 911, i cannot get help as needed. If i see other people in trouble, i cant call 911 and help them. I would like to feel like i am part of this community, feel empowered. She created a change. Org petition. It calls on government officials to pass federal legislation to functioning text to 911 services. Another big issue they will talk about is requiring mobile Service Providers to improve wireless emergency alerts for those that dont speak english, and those with hearing and speech challenges. I will be monitoring that hearing. Thank you, candice. You should know candice first broke the story back in july. If you want to watch her reports on the text to 911 issues, go to nbcbayarea. Com. You can call the number on the screen if you have a concern. Brook jenkins is feeling the heat after a series of social media posts. The social media posts have been deleted, and there were tweets about vandalism in the city. That anger highlights the complexity of local city officials weighing in on a decadesold conflict. Antisemitic graffiti appeared around the same time as a large pro palestinian rally was making its way in a march. District attorney jenkins took to social media to denounce the antisemitic graffiti, but its her characterization of the rally that triggered a response. She wrote this weekend a pro hamas rally was held downtown, and she goes on to denounce the inflammatory language of the graffiti, and she said at this time the suspects are unknown and was associated with the protest. This man says his group put together the demonstration in march. Muslims here in the bay area have loved ones who are dying on the ground. We came out on saturday to show our support for the palestinian people. He says their event was peaceful and believes theres no connection between the demonstration and the vandalism, and by calling it a pro hamas event, he says she dangerously connected them to hamas and can lead to violence. He points to this issue. The report indicates the landlord was motivated by antipalestinian and antimuslim racism. The landlords wife said he had been listening to the conservative talk radio that was covering the hamas battles. San francisco District Attorney jenkins was not available for an oncamera interview but did issue a lengthy and detailed statement. Her Statement Reads in part i listen and understood their concerns and as a result deleted the tweet. I do not support violence, and antisemitic graffiti has no place in san francisco. Jenkins also denounced the murder of the 7yearold boy in illinois, but did not offer an apology for her post, and her statement is not satisfaction, he said. Lets move on. Up next, a 2 million boost to the Space Program here in the bay area. A new Research Center that could bring new jobs here, and here are the renderings of this. Plus, an important update to this years federal tax deadline. What you need to know. I am chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri. A slow start to the rain season. I will show you how we are doing i will show you how we are doing so far for the season and rsv can be a dangerous virus. [sneeze]. For those 60 and older. Its not just a cold. And if youre 60 or older. You may be at increased risk of hospitalization. [coughing]. From this highly. Contagious virus. Not all dangers come with warning labels. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor. About getting vaccinated against rsv today. Okay. This is a big deal. 2 billion and thousands of potential new jobs. Thats the plan for a new space center right at Moffett Field. The giant Research Campus to be build on 36 acres near the nasa ames Research Center. S pretty specific. In a joint effort between uc berkeley and nasa, the plan is to create a million feet of office space, labs and classrooms. Our Business Tech reporter, scott, joins us with the plan. Who is paying for this . It early. Berkeley has investors, and we have the government because nasa is onboard, and they are reaching out for more. They are calling it a Public Private partnership, and its yea away from the environmental clearance, and thats plenty of time to build and raise money. This is part of the dna of the bay area, specifically the Silicon Valley in the south bay and peninsula. The Space Program and the Silicon Valley, and this could continue. Yeah, very interesting. If you think about it, way back in the early 60s, Silicon Valley was birthed, the Space Program, looking to us, well, before us, but they were saying they needed chips and computers to help get to the moon, and all these years later the Tech Companies are joining hands with the Space Program to get the public and private partnership going. Why not stanford . This is six or seven miles away well, the berkeley science Space Foundation part of berkeley, they are spearheading this and maybe they just got there first. Its not to say we wont get startups out of stanford, and even spacerelated startups, and this is aimed at scholarships, and thousands of jobs and lots of potential earning here and possibly another partnership using technology to better get to either the moon, or, heck, mars, whatever. The Space Program has really big goals. I think this is an admission we need academia involved. What is the timeline . Probably a decade before people start attending class and move into these buildings and starting companies, but once it gets going, i think it will go pretty quickly because this is the kind of thing that can raise money and interest quickly. So in 2023, and 2033, we will be talking about this right here at nbc . I hope so. Thank you, scott. We will continue the conversation tonight at 7 00, and we will be joined by the executive director, the Moffett Field project, and we are going to talk more about the 6,000 jobs this might open up and the Academic Partnership with uc berkeley. No state extension has been mentioned at this point. Remember, the end of the month there at the end of the year, there were winter storms, so now you get a little more time. We are going to get Colder Weather and increases rain chances. Lets start off, though, with our rain season, which begins officially on october 1st, and obviously a slow start. Theres only been one official reading here where we picked up any rainfall at all, and thats santa rosa with 0. 07 of an inch this month. Most areas running from 0. 043 there in santa rosa. If you think about this time last year, we already had three to four storm systems and several inches much rainfall. Much different start here to the rain season so far this year. I can tell you by the mid part of next week, maybe by next wednesday and thursday, okay, we may actually get in a system here, moderate strength that could bring widespread rain. Things are trending towards actual changes. We saw showers way to the north of us, and right now on the doppler radar, theres green showing up but thats moisture in the middle of the atmosphere and its not equating to any rainfall. Theres a slight chance we could get a popup shower. We will see the clouds until 11 p. M. Morning temperatures will begin here with lots of 50s across the bay area. We have been used to this. 58 for the south bay and over to san francisco, 56. Double fives there in the north bay. And sunshine and up to 85 in livermore. 73 in san francisco. If you think this is warm, hang on. Wednesday and thursday, High Pressure actually is going to bring 90s inland, and some 70s and 80s to san francisco. Again, just a twoday event here for us, because then we will see the cooler system for the south move in by friday and saturday to drop off temperatures. Look at the trend here. By thursday, 96 in napa. Saturday and sunday, low to mid70s. Then next week, 60s are coming back. Next week, again, that fall weather on the way with better chances of rain coming in. Slight chances on sunday and monday here in san francisco. For the inland valleys, again, 70s this weekend and spotty chances on sunday and monday, and maybe by next wednesday, thursday, we could talk about something better. The 94 there just pops there on thursday. Not excited about that one. I kind of am. You know i like it hot. Something good for everybody. Thank you, jeff.
