Shes living in an mpment in oaand givea firsthan n e stets she also s susisteimle what she thinks could help solve the homeless problem. First thing i wrote in my list of things you need when you become homeless, you have to get a pit bull. I was one of the first people to live here, and i liked it for the quiet and the birds and butterflies and lack of stress. Were trying to be a community, a collective rather than an encampment, theres an ever evolving face of homelessness. I mean college students, grandparents, your mom. Anybody could become homeless. Reporter whats it like being out here as a woman . Its crazy. Theres amazing people out here, but its really hard. Everybody is pushed. I mean, i try to keep the faith in god and oakland is amazing. Theyre very generous. If it wasnt oakland, i dont think i could have survived anywhere else. Theres a lot of love here. But also ire sometimes, and people are getting rt e icides sometimes. And mud and bad weather and rats sometimes. Its just, you know, you dont know who you can trust, and so we all have like intimacy issues. Its hard to be friends with people, but you really want friends. And you love people and at the same time you want to go hide. Then you have the people that are chronically ill or have addictions or whatever, and theyre, you see a lot of that, its hard to manage. I wish they had better dental for our situations. They always want to yank out all your teethes so you look so much better as a homeless person. There just needs to be more outreach. I mean really, were youre neighbors. Its hard out here, and the social classes and the economic things and the housing crisis, a twobedroom is 5,000 a month. Thats crazy to me my friend frankie just recently passed away. She was 90. She went to a home, she was off the streets, she felt great. If we could set up showers, bath houses for the women, or anybody, that would be great. I hear theres a shower here every monday and a big water heater, they dont turn it on, they must have forgotten. Im trying to eradicate the word homeless and turn it to curb side communities instead of encatchments. A lot of time on the news they call it the homeless, you know, the homeless, no curb side community. Were nobodys problem i believe. I have about 500 saved on a fundraiser that ive been doing on facebook. Part of that, well that money is set aside to get a van. Something with an engine so i can go and haul trailers and go see my daughter who i havent seen in 6 years. I really want to be useful. I have all this free time being homeless. I cant afford to go to work and pay bills and stuff, i just want to be useful. Its a struggle out here. Its like being a pioneer woman or a cowboy. You come out here in your rv or tent or whatever, and were settling the curbs because its the last frontier. Shes been living in the encampment for over a year now, but last month it was cleared out to make room for a safe rv parking spot. She just ended up down the street, and she wants that to change. She wants to see encampments sanctioned by the city. Thanks to our editors who put that story together. She tells an interesting tale. Its bad, but its good, but its bad. And theres community and its tough. But youre on your own. I think the bigger take away is just that its bad and hopefully we can find a solution, right . Absolutely. Thank you so much. Keep sending your stories and items prect home and you can see all of the reporting on our website. And tonight city leaders in palo alto are stepping in before nere hikkicks in. They want to stop rent hikes and unjust evictions following similar ordinances in other cities. Tenants protested they were getting gouged or kicked out and said landlords were take advantage before the cap takes effect in january. And a special report tonight at chase center. The warriors provided the tickets, a special tour of the arena, and a special meeting with coach kerr. In tonights warriors d me, a s of survivors and their families cheered on the dubs. The victim also watched the pregame shoot around court side. Its just kind of surreal. Its a little intimidating i think to be in a crowded place, but it makes me feel safe knowing that were being like escorted. Reporter gabriella was shot in the shoulder and grazed in the back as she ran for safety. Her recent surgery to remove bullet fragments was successful. Before the game, they met with coach kerr. His father was assassinated while serving as the president of the American University in the beirut. The first thing that has to happen is our government officials have to decide the safety of our citizens is more important than the money they receive from the nra. Hes a very, very humbling person, and know his background, he shared his story and why hes such an advocate for gun violence, i can see why hes very outspoken. Reporter the garlic festival shooting left 3 dead and over a dozen injured in july. Since some survivors filed a lawsuit against the Security Company and Festival Association for not securing the venue. Tonight this group is a reminder of gilroys strength, resiliency, and pride. Were all survivors as a town and as a nation. Reporter betty yu, kpix 5. Okay, highlights for tomorrows forecast, morning well have patchy dense fog and then in the evening theres some light rain coming from the next storm. But first, i can show you what the entire bay area is going to look like tomorrow at sunrise because we looked like it tonight at sunset. This is a time lapse from the top t yohad get up abov feet to see t most omar of us were living underneath the gray skies, but up high enough it was a beautiful view. So lets talk about where were most likely to see the dense fog on the roadway tomorrow. I start in the north bay, we get to the south bay next. But in terms of the north bay, watch the time tick by and see the visibility readings as we go into what will likely be the 2 or 3 hour window where wed have issues with fog on the roadway. Stop it as 6 00 a. M. And see so many sensors are down to 0 means thats how far you can see down the roadway in miles. Mill valley at that point, you can see a mile thats fan, but petaluma down to 0. Not that its going to play out exactly in those locations at exactly that time, but in general 6 00 a. M. To 8 00 a. M. Tomorrow, maybe a little later, keep your eye out if youre driving anywhere in the north bay for patchy dense fog. Wont be as bad for the south bay. Ill play this through to 6 00 a. M. , and notice here at 6 00 were not seeing as many of the sensors get as low. Still potentially low. By the time weve gotten to 10 00 and 11 00, its cleared out. So theres the fog story. Going to be cold tonight in the north bay. Look at that 39 for santa rosa. Its not one of those situations where we see the temperatures get noticeably colder for those sheltered valleys up in the north bay. Santa rosa thats you. Everyone else is down into the mid40s, and daytime highs where right where they should be. Here comes tomorrows chance of light rain. Lets play it forward. Just watch this leading edge into tomorrow afternoon. Ill play it into tomorrow night and it kind of falls apart as it comes on shore. But once we get into the overnight hours, here come the scattered showers. Mainly focused on the north bay, but even the south and central bay have a chance towards sunrise for a few light showers. I dont anticipate a lot though. Theres the totals. 05inches of rain for the north bay. We shouldnt get much in the central or south bay. Thats around sunrise that its done. Another small chance of rain on friday. Not impressed with that. Not a lot coming our way. If we get it, its friday night. Dont count on a lot.
