Take a look at downtown sacramento. The sun finally came back today. It was a welcome sight. Not perfect, but pretty darned good. Orange haze and smoke almost a week ago, so this is a relief for many. The cleaner air has finally begun to come back, and paul, i say that, because its still not perfect out there. I was running away today quite a bit, theres still a lot of smoke. Yes, but its so much better than it was even 24 hours guy. This is what the air quality map looked like at 6 00 on monday evening, unhealthy air quality, and this is the current air quality map. And this will put a smile on your face. There are still plenty of yellow and orange dots indicating unhealthy air, put you see a lot of green mixed in there, as well. The worst air quality at the moment is in the trivalley and the Santa Clara Valley, butral the worst were seeing there is that orange category, unhealthy for sensitive groups. Things will still be in that range for the trivalley area and the south end over the bay, and the Santa Clara Valley for wednesday. This is our last spare the air day, i think. Its up to the bay area air management district, but tomorrow will be the 30th straight, and that should do it for this particular streak, because the air quality will keep getting better. Well, the sun might have put a little pep in your step today. Adam spoke to folks taking advantage of bluer skies. Devin and the fires, smoke, and dirty air havent region good for our health physically or emotionally, and now people are jumping at the chance to get outside and enjoy some fresh air after a month. The air quality has been horrendous. Really this is the first day we see blue skies. It changes your perception of the earth and how humans influence the environment. Reporter a cross the way in Golden Gate Park in san francisco. I didnt want to spend class inside today. Reporter a cloud of smoke, dirty, dangerous air that made each breath feel like a risk to your lungs and health. I can breathe. You know, back home within its really hard to breathe. So i like my decision to come to the beach today. Reporter Rebecca Porter traveled from fresno, where a lot of the smoke is coming from, to santa cruz, where the beaches and sea breeze didnt disappoint. And im on vacation, so a little bit of that is off of me, but nonetheless, i can understand how people are pretty frustrated with this air quality. And while were not completely out of the woods where the threat of wildfires and smoke are concerned, people say theyre going to enjoy this break for as long as it lasts. Well, to our covid coverage now. Kpix 5s andria borba joan joins us from marin county. They have the ability to open restaurants now. A big step. Reporter it is. You may not have heard of proposition 18 yet, but its bound to get people talking and reveal how much of a generation gap there is right now. The proposition would allow 17 yearolds to vote in primaries, but only if they will turn 18 by the date of the general election. The argument is, if you can legally vote in an election, you should have some say about who is on the ballot. Ryan beam turned 18 years old five days after the primary election was held. Right now im pretty much just going to be like a rubber stamp on whatever nominee was chosen by the people who have an equally stake in the election. I mean, im going to be an adult for the duration of the next president ial term, so, yeah, its seems like i ought to have a say. Reporter but that argument didnt get much support on the streets of danville today. To me, the older you are is better. They dont know the issues. Theyre going to be swayed by instagram. 18 is a good starting point. To go backwards doesnt seem like a good position. This idea that were older and wiser and we know better, and theyre less wise and they know less than us. Reporter to this professor, it sounds suspiciously like the argument used to keep women and black people from voting. He said if some are afraid of younger people voting, they may have reason to. And it might change the outcoming of a few states, right . But i would say it would have changed the outcome of the 2016 election, right .
