Welcome to outside source. E the race for ite house is still very much on and the votes are still being counted. The resuins on arizona, nevada, penorylvania, and a. We are expecting an update from georgia in the next few minutes to read when that happens, we will listen in. The Trump Campaign has launched a number olegal challenges and they wt votes to be hrown protesters are claiming the process is uanair. The bide pain is urgingat very vote is counted. We have won. Am not here to say i am here to report that when bee count is fished, we believe we will he winners. Host itno iser day for americas democracy. The president ak isg baseless accusations of electoral fraud and attempting to steal the election. His son, eric, is tweeting this information about ballot burning when there is no evidence that is happening. Counting votes is a standard part of the electoral process. International election observers are accusing theresident of gross abuse of office. Donald trump repeatedly attacked the democratic process ding the campaign, so the last two days are not entirely a surise, but the last two days have shown us that for better or for worse, ts is not american democracy as people normally see it. Still, the count goes on. Lets go to the Electoral College projections. The bbc has j biden with 253 votes. Donald trump with 200 14. Whoever gets to 2 will be president. Wisconten is proj for biden. If the results are within 1 , there could be a recount. We have no results for pennsylvania which carries 20 electoral votes. We are also focused on georgia, arizona, nevada. Remember, all the votes are not yet counted. We d know already that joe biden has received over 17 million votes, more than any president ial candidate in history. So, to emphasize again, the national vte is what counts. It is all about the Electoral College. Winning individual states gives candidates Electoral College votes that can make them president. Donald trump has repeatedly asserted without evidence that people are trying to ste the election from him, ae st stress that the accounting underway is a completely normal paf the process area mailin ballots are routinely counted after electionay although they must be cast by election day at the latest. There was a higher number of mailin ballots this year in part because of the pdemic, but that has not stopped the present from making thisai earlier, he tweeted to stop the count and any vote that came in after election day will n be counted. If they took that approh right now, nevada joe bidena ould take nevd the election. For his part, he is tweeting be patient, things look good where they areevery vote will be counted. Everything in redo belongs the president. Everything in blue is projected the gray boxes are the battleground states th yet to be decided. I think we can ignore north caro for the ment. Things have not shifted there much in the last 24 hours. I want to show y the route joe biden has to the white house. He has three. The simplest is that one. Pennsylvania takes themo 3. He has other routes. Er the last few hours, georgia has been tightening. If you won georgia he won georgia he needs about 13,500 to catch thent presi and then nevada, that is one route. He is aheadn the southwest. He does not need pennsylvania. He could just put it in blue there and with nevada, that comes to exactly 270. For the president , it is more difficult. He needs pennsylvania. For him, pennsylvania is the race. If he takes h georgia, hangs on there, north airline, if he wins arizona and nevada, north carolina, if he wins arizona and nevada, where he is behind at e moment, he is at 262. He has tweeted stop thcount. He is front in these states and the more they count, the more his leaslips away. But if you stop the count over here, joe biden is already home at 270. Host clearly, what is frustrating donald trump is he had big leads in these states but those leads are going down. We did expect that to happen, didnt we . Of course we did. I want to talk about pennsylvania in particular. We were warned ahead of the election that what they were going to do s count the in person votes first. What we are loong at at the moment is the absentee vote. It is in places like philadelphia and allegheny, in the western part of the state, which is around pittsburgh. Viit h tilts toward joe biden. The other thing to remember is that even when you have atee votes irepublican areas, they are countg the absentee votes that lean they are counting the mail votes and those tend to skew democrat. Lookingt pennsylvania, 93 of the vote is now counted. Donald trump has a lead of 114,000. In georgia, it is the same format. They a counting the absentee ballots. It skews heavily toward joe biden. When you look at the lead, he has a lead at the moment of 13,005 hundred, which, with 50,000 votes still to count, sounds like it might be a healthy lead, but the counting in the Atlanta Metro area and Fulton County, where there are a lot of democrat votes leaning heavily toward biden and in other democrat areas in the at, there is every reason to think he is going to catch t presiden in georgia and pennsylvania, which is why the biden coun is confident. Aic georgian ol is holding a press conference. Floyd, i dont have a clear answer. Forsyth, ou great election structure is wor to get through. She is very much on the sid of being accurate than fast, which is good, because she is a diligent director. Fulton continues to drawdown their number. They have 7305. We are keeping a close eye on that number. There are 1200 ballots in the second stage of signature tch. They will decide that total. One specific item i have her Fulton County is they have 3900 provisionals. I dont know the coding. Either there is an automaticac ptance or action required by the voter. When at, we are down to 4800. We had discussions with them about why they had 7700 out there. Part of that is a scanning differential between accepted ballots and those rorded. 4400 of the absentee ballots are scanned. They had an issue earlier this morniney had a corrupt memory card on one of the early voting icps a polling place scanner. They took the ballots from that and rescanned those. That changed the totals of approximately 400 votes. That is the benefit of paper backup. Harris continues to work. Lawrence county contthis afternoon. They are trying to figure out where the batches are for the 700 87. Theyd thought they uploaded them and realized they had not. Taylor had a unique issue. They did their absentee ballot printing inhouse. Something along theay made the balance not the appropriate size. Host dcussing georgias statewide voting system, the, mentation manager. Asng you can hear, tare getting granular. Georgia is down to, well, not the last few votes, but certainly the majority of votes we know the tally is close. The remaining votes to bete co are absolutely cruci as both men seek to reach 270. If you have been following the count over the last few days, there may be times when you are confused. We are projecting joe biden at 253, donald trump at 214. If you look elsewhere, you may see different figures. For example, here is the new york times. It is alsoct prog 253. There have been times when we have been out of sync. Their projecti includes wisconsin, although there may be fox news is including arizona for joe biden, where 86 of ballots have been counted. That is not in our projection. This year, the bbc gets its data from writers and the polling firm edisonrc res from reuters and from the polling in nevada, we are still awaiting the results. It is really, really close. They keep saying they want to get it right. Essentially, we are going to get much more information tomorrow. Very likely, we will not hear more today. In clark county, the mostvotes populous county in nevada. It contains las vega generally, whoever wins this county will win the election. Hillary Clinton Clark county by 11 points. At the moment, joe biden is winning by eight points. That might be enough, but it is so close. A lot of people were not expecting about a two be this close. It is were not expecting nevada to be this close. It is just a nice edge here. There have been protests here. That is one to watch. We wil kw mor by 10 00 a. M. Pacific tomorrow, 6 00 p. M. Gmt. By then, ifse all of t votes are counted, we could get a clear indication of who has won. But we dont know. We might know saturday. Weig now sunday. We might not know until next week. It is still very mucin the air. Host just to reiterate, we may not get the final result from nevada until next week. Now, though fight over this election is heading tcourt. In fact, heading to lots of them. Donald trump is threatening lawsuits in some states bng projected for joe biden and others where we dont have a projection the moment. These lawsuits are largely trying to stop the count. So far, we see no evidence voter fraud is happening. Here is the cochair of the Trump Campaign in the vat. There are examples of thousands omaballots being ed across this valley in trash cans and apartment buildings, peopletng as many as 18 ballots to their homes. We knew these rules were unclean, but we were aold that we were told that signatures would save us from all fraud, but to date, we so have not been able to still have not been able to observe these signatures. Host that claim was put to the we are not aware of any improper ballots being processed. Not directly that i am aware of. Host lawsuits have been filed in all of these states. First, georgia. It i tight there, as we are hearing. Donald trump is seeking a court order arguing that ballots that arrived lat are probably mixed with valid ballots. The suit probably only affects 53 ballots. Close to 5 million votes. Wisconsin, a recount is possible if the margin of victory is less than 1 . The Trump Campaign says it plans to formally request a recount citing irregularities in several wisconsin counties. Again, we have seen no irregularities impacting which way the state goes. Next, michigan. The challenge there has been delivered a blow in the last hour. New york times reporter ed hill has told us judge stevens denied to the lawsuit saying the secretary of state does not control local counting or processing and that the relief that sought a halt to the count was moved wn the suit was filed. He went on to say the campaign has filed at best a hearsay affidavit. All of this is not just playing out in the courts. You may have seen these pictures from detroit last night. Here is a group of donald Trump Supporters shouting stop the count outside a vote counting room, demanding accessac. Rding to local media, 200 observers were already inside. In thewe m, the Trump Campaign has two lawsuits in pennsylvania, both seeking to hold vote counting. Again, it is worth reiterating hat this is the president of america a colleagues trying to stop the count of votes that according to state laws tha have been legitimately cast. In pennsylvania at the moment. The big question is whether biden can close the gap. Here is Corey Lewandowski in philadelphia. Democracy dies in darkness. Our observers should be watching these votes. This is a win for every person who has cast a legal ballot in the state of pennsylvania. We are going to go in right now and watch at is goingn from six feet away. This is a win. Whatil yousee is that democrats are going to try to st this from happening. They dont want the American People to know what is going on in here. Host the Trump Campaign has been more enthusiastic about stopping vote unts in states where he is ahead and less in states whe he behind, such as arizona. Here are Trump Supporters in arizona last nig. This is outside a voting cent in downtown phoenix, the biggest itty in arizona. You can hear the protesters saying we want tmp. Some of them were armed with guns. You can hear the chant inside the ballot counting facility. As you will see as you will see, there were police present because of the situation. An International Observer has called the president s claims baseless allegations that can harm public trust in democratic institutions. The ambassador is head of the osc. She has been speaking to the bbc. Every candidateppas a right tol to the courts. That is one of the reasons we are here. We are here belonged beyond election day. Rvi have my own obs in all of the battleground states at the moment, including those where we have protesters saying stop the count, those saying start the count. We have access to the counting talation process. With the exception of pennsylvania who state laws do not allow us or other obsrshostk about whether trump would leave in 2020. I think thi is entirely a script that wasroctable and they are basically engaging willingly acts willienelly acts of litigation. As was pointed out, there is an rinconsistency to th stance. That is, they are eager to continue the count in states in which they are trailing and to stop the count in states where they hav aead. There is not really a legal principle principled legal they are the positio adopting. It is just sheer political the other thing to point out is that it is very unliky any ofts these lawsre going to prevail. The suit was dismissed in michigan. The fedel judge there was a republican appointee, a george w. Bush appointee, basically described the suit is as meritless if not frivolous. Be the final thing to point out, its t even clear if trump believes he will prevail in these lawsuits. There could benother purpose of these suits, which is to delay the count and further muddy the waters. Host we are starting toof get a lo data about why voters went one way or the other. We look to lrn a little more about that. Boris johnson says new lkdown restrictions that began in england today will have a real impact on the spread of covid19. Mr. Johnson i wet to assr. You this is not a repeat of the spring. Schoolss and universit are all staying open and these measures are tough and timelimited. The advice i have received suggests that four weeks is enough for these measures to make a real impact. These rules will expire on the second of december and we will resume. We are going to take care of those in hospital thanks largely to the on genuity of britis scientists. Ingenuity british scientists. Rapid testing is being rolled out starting tomorrow in liverpool. Host our lead story comes from the u. S. , of course, as counting continues in seval key states. Joe biden is ahead in the Electoral College, but lets be clear, either candidate can still win. Now, while we await a winner in the u. Election, we already have a huge amount of data on how and why people voted. Whether donald trump winor loses, a significant amount of americans do want him to continue. Many peoplehought this would be a referendum on his handling of the pdemic, but exit polls show that the economy was more of an issue. We hav also learned about key elements of the electorate. This is a breakdown of the exit polls. Joe biden is in blue. Donald trump is in red. Africanamericans heavily backed mbiden. Americ skewed forward toward trump. American women skewed toward biden. But the number of suburban women biden won was not as high as somee nticipated. Esident of as a sin of eison Research Conducted poles we have been speaking about. We have been discussg how the results differ from 2016, but im guessing there are some similarities. When you look at t percentages, a lot are similar to four years ago. The key thing your viewers might want to understand is and im am sure you have touched on this how many more people voted. We will likely have 20,000,000pe5,000,000 more le who voted this time compared to 2016. The other big shifts i that gains seem to have heavily come from the nonwhite populatioin e usa. Our estimate is only 65 thi. Ti given that the total number, llions and millions of nonwhite americans voted who did not voten 2016. Host wha about suburban voters . There was so much focus on them its interesting because yes, that was absolutely a huge area of emphasis. The percentage that voted each way within the suburbs was really very similar. Trumpete ione point worsethe suburbs mpared to how he trump did one point worse in the suburbs compared to 2016. The place where he lost the most votes was rural america. That might not have mattered that much because many of the rural states are very committed to him. But it does appear made a difference in certainly the two blue wal states that it appears biden took backrom hillary clinton. Wisconsin. Ago, michigan and and when allsa i and done, it may prove decisive in states like pennsvania and georgia as well. Host i wonder how many biden supporters b went for hause they simply wanted to get rid of donald trump, that was their number one reason. That was a big factor, but still, the song majority said they voted affirmatively for the person they liked. It was because they were voting affirmatively for biden. Host how interesting. So many people said this would be a referendum on the pandemic or donald trump, but what we are hearing is the number one reasy. Was the econ one Georgia State voting official says he expects unting of ballots to be completed by 10 days after the election. That is normal, but if you are feeling impatient and want this to be resoed soon, you may need to give it a few days. Narrator funding for this presentation of this program is provided by.
