Developers plan to convert the former Kroger bakery property on Cleveland Avenue into a complex that would include 448 apartments, a restaurant and a small office space. The plan would retain the two primary buildings on the property, a former Ford factory and the bakery, and add three four- or five-story buildings to the north and west. The extensive grounds would include a basketball court, swimming pool and dog park, in addition to several seating areas. Plans call for 599 parking spaces on the site, 420 of them enclosed. The development would be one of the largest single clusters of apartments in or near Downtown, more on the scale of a suburban than an urban complex. It would be a short walk from Columbus State Community College, Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center and some major employers including Abbott Nutrition.
