Like i said weve on red wine or erode for at hours i just covering some of the destruction here and about an hour around half ago. Thats when noticed a lot of fire trucks and driving very fast down red winery road and heading toward that plume of smoke we also saw an ambulance and that was the first one that weve seen sense covering this fire. Yesterday in today and the same ambulance. Also just came back down heading towards unclear if theres any injuries at this point. I understand there will be a press conference that looks like at 6. 30 so hopefully well get some of our questions answered them, but for now were just kind of concerned looking at this big plume of smoke i i also drove down red winery road to try to get to the plume smoke and i got as far as pine flat road. And cal fire a stop there. They are not letting us in. Reporters stopped right there just to checking out that plume of smoke that first time i believe that weve been tonight. Covering this kinkaid fire. Fire truck going by now. Lot of fire trucks going toward that again just trying to figure out exactly whats going on. Another note, helicopters planes we havent seen a lot of them fighting the fire from the sky at least not visible from where we are. But we did see a plane about 45 minutes ago or so. Her head absent a medical very unclear at this point back to you guys so much show just give us a sense of the area where you are whats around you right now. Are you seeing quite a few reporters lately ive right where some homes were burned to earn geysers road and red wine or erode. 21 homes have burned that we know of so far in this fire. And theres probably 2 or 3 right here on this road i cant really show you ats front of me but i can show you right behind me here. We see a utility pole down on the road part and just beyond that. At least a structure unclear if its a home or not but a structure thats completely destroyed. We see a lot of sun times that have burned and fallen down here as well. Theres a burned car. Again home that is totally destroyed all we see is an oven on that property so a lot of destruction right here on this road we actually spoke to a man. He drove right up to us and asked if he could use our cell phone. This is the first time he was coming back on to his road he lives just up the street here and he was very emotional unable to do an interview with a side evacuated. He said he had about 3 minutes to grab his stopping get out on wednesday. And he was able to go back to his this afternoon so he was heading their own we spoke to hoping that hes going back to a house. I want ask couple questions to but first want to orient to our viewers on exactly where you are looking at the map so youre just read know as youre driving eastut of calistoga heading up highway one 28 is that correct. We are east of river casino thats correct river rock, im sorry basically the area that youre in his boots on its called jim town and people there with no to town. If youre looking toward that huge plume of smoke behind you. That really is the area where the fire erupted, youre kind of looking toward geyser peak which is just near where the fire began so theres nothing new its just that. A big flareup is what happened correct. Actually just looking at a map before our live shot and figure out exactly where we are as well and yet we were looking north 2 guys are ville were looking at that plume from where we are and that smoke that plume is kind of blowing east. O yeah thais where the fire had has been we just havent seen such a law large plume like that a sense weve been covering this and again it just kind of came out of nowhere weve and standing here in a state blanket of smoke and thats what we were you know originally going to be speaking about tonight. Its just how thick the smoke is where were standing theres no wind so its very still and just kind of getting right in your lungs. Everything just kind of looks gray then out of nowhere. This giant to read brown plume of smoke appeared. So not really homes in the area where youre standing and of course were looking toward geyser peak is ken just said which is also more of a rocket or a. Burned in this area just in front of me my photographer cant really get a shot of it just because theres trees in the way, but we had will tran our reporter this morning out. House and we believe theres another one just behind me here where that utility pole is down. Hard to tell of its homes or just out buildings but definitely structures burned that i hear on geysers road. The wineries in that area in addition to some scattered homes and ranches that kind of thing the thing thats surprising. Michelle is that earlier today we heard the governor talking 7. 47 firefighting aircraft was on its way to Sonoma County. Apparently that has not arrived or nobody has seen it in the air yet, but looking at the pictures of the smoke behind you. The visibility is clear. It doesnt appear theres a a strong wind that weve had in the last 24 hours or so, and looks like the conditions are good for an aerial attack, but there are no aircraft up thats a little puzzling. We are so you would you would think that youd be able to hear that and yesterday we saw plenty, helicopters and planes up there fighting the fire and today, were just not seeing that that we did see, but looked i mean its a its far away it hard to see, but it looks like a small white plane. But it was hard to tell if it was a Fire Fighting plane or a rescue plane and we saw briefly and havent seen it again very quiet in the sky here as a private pilot i can tell you what happens is they shut down the airspace around these big fire. So that. The aircraft fighting the fire can have free access to and theyre not worried about other aircraft in their area but a small light plane generally thats a spotter plane from cal fire thats going in. Retardant dropped to pick the spots for those tankers to make their drops but if there are no takers behind it than us. Its a little puzzling as to whats going on. The orange color of the smoke is very odd as you pointed out you will not see no weve not seen that in the course of the kim k fire that started on wednesday night. As the sun starts to set its looking even more red and which you know, and said that the sun sets are magnificent during a piece. These fires but that read i can tell you we saw you know an hour a half ago when this first started the sum was not setting yet so it certainly looking more red because of that sunset but it was read from from when we first aside, especially right on the top of that plume a majority of that was brown the top was red and now were seeing a lot more of it looking read just because of that sunset but yet definitely a different color than what weve been seeing. He came toward the north and you can see the smoke drifting to the right which means its going more toward the east. It seems like the wind has shifted because it was coming out of the north earlier now its going back perhaps burning back toward an area where the fire started where theres less to burn so conceivably if this wind maintains this direction thats good news. That means its not going to be spreading out asked the burn area. You know we can only hope. Again well have that press conference hopefully at 6. 30 and theyll be able to answer a lot of our questions here, especially about this plume. Michelle kingston we will stay in touch with you over the course of our newscast and check back. And when you let us know if there are new developments on your and well stay in touch. All right here is the latest on what we do know about the kim k fire burning in Sonoma County right now so far almost 22,000 acres have been destroyed along with 49 structures, many of them homes, the kim k fire at last check is still only 5 contained evacuation orders remain in effect affecting some 2000 people we also want let you know that we are awaiting that News Conference from cal fire to update the status of the cane kade fire.
