Nearly 340,000 acres. And is 10 contained 5 structures have been destroyed 20,000 others are threatened to First Responders and 2 civilians have been injured. Kron fours dan thorn live for us in Santa Clara County tonight where the su lightning complex continues to spread. In the area around Mount Hamilton, so dan what have you learned tonight. And in this fire is primarily burning right now in the deep rural areas near Mount Hamilton as you head up the lick observatory. Still very smoky and very dangerous for people that are in those areas and thats fire crews out here been asking people to evacuate and not be allowed to head back into these areas if you look at some of the video that we have from earlier today this is a grant ranch park where you can see charred hillsides there. Along with that you can see some flame retardant that was dropped off to prevent this fire from spreading over the last couple of days, nearby homes have been threatened as you can see a lot of dry brush out here which just makes it don nice and easy for the fire to sort of quickly moved through we spoke with some people here who saw there acres of land pretty much go up in flames a lot of them losing either their homes or a lot of other valuable possessions in areas where this fire just continues to burn on firefighters say that the roads are very treacherous. They can be narrow and just difficult for big vehicles to traverse which has made the ground attack on very some people however are taking the firefight into their own hands by using their own heavy machinery on their property. But every year is kind of is kind like a lottery some to some years you have a fire in some years, the doll. This year just happen to be one of the worst years that has transpired a very long time. Well fire officials have asked people as we mentioned before to evacuate along Mount Hamilton road. People will likely not be allowed back into this area a quite some that has disappointed some people there that are wanting to get back to their property and just to see what sort of damage has been done, but theyre only allowing people to go in there in case of emergency that is if people have livestock that are up there or in some zones where they believe that they maybe think that their home might still be there. But the main thing is mostly just keeping people safe and keeping people from risking their lives. Dan thorn reporting live for us in Santa Clara County tonight of course the weather alwlys a big issue when were talking about fires. Chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow has more from the weather center. Yeah bring us up to date. Yeah guys were talking about a wind switch with. Fires extremely important. Were going for a northwesterly wind which pushes it from the northwest to the southeast and now well switch directions. Coming up on the southwest pushing toward the northeast. So some of these fire lines in some of these areas could be challenged tomorrow as were going to see those winds switched direction on top of that weve got to change in the weather so far the winds have been fairly favorable over the last couple of days weve had an onshore breeze weve had low cloud and fog the humidity has been on the rise. Well now were going to throw in maybe some gusty winds, maybe some gusts of 25 Miles Per Hour for get underneath a thunderstorm you can see gusts maybe a 40 or maybe 60 Miles Per Hour that could jump those fire lines in her so ill show you what were dealing with these are the remnants of genevieve not much moisture attached to a but certainly something that looks threatening right now doesnt look as intense as the storm system that brought us the amazing amount of lightning strikes. 2500 lightning strikes in the bay area from that one storm system alone now that moisture is going to start to track a little further to the north as it does were already starting to see some of it off the coastline, you see it near big sur that is moving up toward the north that is going to be sweeping in overnight with a chance of some thunderstorms coming in our direction well see if we can time those out for you coming up a few minutes guys back to you thank you very much for us to the north bay now the l a new lightning complex fire is so far the deadliest of the 3 major complex fires burning in the bay area. Heres a map of the areas that burned so far you can see all around Lake Berryessa just west of healdsburg the complex has grown to more than 325,000 acres across an almost a lotto napa lake and yolo counties the lnu complex fire is still a 15 containment, it has claimed the lives of 5 people 4 others have been injured during the fire fight at least 845 structures have been destroyed and 231 others have been damaged kron fours noelle bellow joins us now just outside of healdsburg in Sonoma County one of the area says is now under mandatory Evacuation Orders. Noel. Thats right if you live west of the one o one up here in the healdsburg area you have likely been ordered to evacuate i am west of healdsburg on west side road. This is the main drag that really gets you back into whats being called the walbridge fire you mentioned the lnu has several little fires that have kind of combined into one this is one of the little quote unquote fires it is 51,000 acres tonight and this fire part in particular is still 0 contained i was looked checking just before you guys came to me there was a bit of a orange glow behind me as lawrence was mentioning, you know that about the wind changing what they are preparing for is for this fire to grow more southwest which is kind of that towards me right now and brooke, you know right now obviously crews and that was a fire truck that just drove by me this is exactly where the fire trucks are are coming up and down on this west side road. The story earlier today though was just how thick the smoke was i have some video to show you guys i was on my way up here i took a left off of a river road off the one o one. And i drove up from the south portion which got me to west side road and that got me all the way up here to dry creek road as i drove the thicker and thicker the smoke and that dark dark haze got lots of ash blowing around is something to be thankful for is all of the water sources that are available for cruise around here as they battle this fire the Russian River does run right through where between where this fire is and the one o one is so i watched as a couple of helicopters even made water drops earlier today. I made my way down mill creek road that was a road that a lot of folks on my twitter were asking about i went down tour about the 4,000 block of mill creek road still did not see any damage there but i know whats beyond that is called of the and there there are properties that were scorched. Thats according to some firefighters, many people off of these roads were doing what they could to let firefighters know that they had water supply on their properties so if they needed some help fighting this fire. These properties were trying to do the best they could i spoke with one man who was doing everything he could to try and save his ive activated every year in the past 4 years from either this area or another area and so this is becoming a little bit too familiar. Unfortunately, and i hope events have 10 sprinklers all over the roofs and around the house we cleared out a lot of the brush. Weve got a couple little lines and we got rid of a lot of the things that could cause them problems. We also set up a. A gas powered pomp and of the pool to try to bring a little bit more water on to the scene if its needed. Now the area theyre focusing on for tonight is off of sweet water springs road again that is southwest of where im standing right now. And theyre just kind of hoping they can hold this lot fire lines so that it doesnt jump to all of these properties here off of west side road and of course these wineries im standing on the side of a winery right now and that the big concern here tonight live in healdsburg noelle bellow kron 4 news. Thank you know, this is the evacuation map for Sonoma County, the red sections indicate the Evacuation Orders which are mandatory while the yellow were first to an evacuation warning People Living in those yellow zones are not required to leave at this moment, however, if the call comes they need to be ready to go immediately. And check in on the latest weather conditions out there our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow standing by so large were going to see some change in the winds. Yeah, it looks like these winds will switch more of a northwesterly direction. To southwest. So that significant these firefighters have been hold these lines of the spots fight against that wind son when switches from a southerly direction so that is going to mean an entirely different fight for them as they head in toward tomorrow also were starting to see some subtropical moisture beginning to move in or skies. You see it down toward big sur right now starting to sweep up from the south similar to the situation we had before the fires continuing to burn in the Santa Cruz Mountains, San Mateo County also Santa Cruz County you can see here bonny doon boulder learns a park the winds are that strong coming out of the northwest and its fairly moist. But its because we have the persistent winds and the rugged terrain makes it difficult to stop that fire continue to burn there and we thought son chance lightning storms going to get a lot more dangerous as we head in toward the next few days also further to the north all you can see i have lets be clear the winds to 10 Miles Per Hour. I think the fire conditions have been pretty favorable for firefighters, the last couple of days things are going to now those winds begin to switch direction and could get gusty at times with some of those thunderstorms moving on through back toward the coastline near point rays you can see this latest a one word fire that continues to burn here. Has started to expand someone and of course
