Reporter a motive for this murderous rampage is unclear at this point. They have not yet identified the suspect. What the sheriff is telling us within the last half hour is that he shot and killed four people including two people at the beginning of this rampage on bobcat lane called rancho tehama reserve. The woman who was killed in the beginning of this rampage is the same woman he attacked allegedly back in january. After attacking these two people , he began driving through the rancho tehama neighborhood killing and shooting other people. He did end up at the school, rancho tehama Elementary School and shooting at random where he got out of his car and began opening fire. Because of the quick thinking from school administrators, no children there were hurt. However, two children were shot and wounded during the rampage. We talked to a victim who came facetoface with the killer as well as a man who lives near the school. Heres what they had to say. When i tried to go inside her house they said somebodys killing people at rancho. And he said me. He shot me. The guy started shooting. A big sound. Three people came to my house. Reporter authorities have recovered the semi automatic rifle and two handguns. They also found another weapon and one of the two vehicles these hole or carjacked during this rampage. The motive is unclear for this investigation and unclear who he was shooting at people at random and cars and he also went to the school. Why he did that is unclear. That is the latest from Tehama County. Ktvu fox2 news a man who claims his roommate was shot and killed by the gunman says he lived near the suspect and tried to tell Law Enforcement he felt threatened by him. The government drove his truck through a fence and into the quad of an Elementary School. The sheriff said the gunman picked that school at random. The gunman tried to get into some of the classrooms but the school had gone into lock down seconds earlier. We are outside that school. The sheriff says if not for the quick thinking of teachers and staff, a lot of children would have been killed. Reporter we are talking about mere seconds. 10 to 15 seconds. There are no words to describe the panic and fear that children, staff, and administrators must have been going through. This happened so quickly. We are hearing how it went down from the superintendent in detail. The children were arriving to school at rancho tehama Elementary School and many children were outside in the quad similar to what you see behind me. They were playing in the quad at 7 57. Gunshots went off and administrators for one shot and and several others and immediately after and they begin the lockdown procedures at 7 57. 10 to 15 seconds later the shooter was plowing through the school fence, jumped out of his vehicle on to the semi automatic rifle and began firing at the school. The head custodian was outside and was making sure he was getting every student inside of the classroom before he himself began to run inside to lock the door behind him. We are hearing that the gunman never made it inside a classroom because again, within 15 seconds they went into lock down and had the entire school shut down. The gunman fired hundreds of rounds at the windows in the walls shattering glass whilst sing staff hid under their desks. The superintendent said the phone lines and all of rancho tehama were down because of the shooting. It was hurt around town throughout the morning with people calling 911. That method of communication was no longer an option. I was actually notified by your secretary who sent an email while crouching under her desk. Reporter the superintendent said one student was shot while hunkering down under a desk, hit by a bullet that pierced the wall. That child was transferred to Mercy Medical center and is stable condition. 10 to 15 seconds was the window of time that had when the students were outside playing and when the shooter showed up on the campus firing hundreds of rounds. It was a horrific scene as described by the educators. Multiple multiple rounds being fired. Multiple magazines found at the scene. Hightech magazines. It was a very, very difficult and terrifying situation which could have gone a lot worse. We are grateful for the fact that although we did have one student injured, it could have been much worse. Reporter after the shooting the students were sent to a Community Center where their parents can pick them up. They said they will have Resources Available for the next few days. Rancho tehama Elementary School will be closed for the rest of the week as Law Enforcement continues with their investigation and so they can make necessary repairs outside of the school. There is a meeting for the staff to discuss the situation and how they will prepare for the lockdown truly saved so many lives today. It is just remarkable but no students were killed.
