Not the sheriff said that neil built his own weapons. Alex savage was there and we are live now with even more. Reporter good afternoon. Authorities have not released a clear motive for the killings but some of the relatives say that he suffered from Mental Illness and was known for violent outbursts. He had apparently been fighting with some of his neighbors for some time and according to the sheriff here the gunman yesterday used two illegally made assault rifles to terrorize the small town, shooting people at random. Even targeting an Elementary School. His first victim was his wife. Cut a floor, cut a hole in the floor, we are confident that he murdered her, shot her at some point, probably late monday and just put her body in the floor and covered it up. Reporter after serving a search warrant at the gunmans home here last night the Sheriffs Office found the body of the wife. Yesterday morning neil went on a shooting rampage, initially killing two of his neighbors. He then spent about 25 minutes driving through this Rural Community firing at people at random on the street, even shooting into homes. Authorities say that neil killed five people and wounded ten before he was killed during a shoot out with Law Enforcement. It turns out the gunman was out on bail after being charged earlier this year with assaulting one of his neighbors, a woman who was one of the shooting victims yesterday. That woman had taken out a restraining order against him and because of that order the gunman was not allowed to legally possess any weapons. Still the Sheriffs Office confirmed today that there were a number of neighbors who called the police in the are you cent past to complain about gun fire coming from his home. Today the assistant sheriff said his office did its best to investigate those complaints. I am aware incidents where neighbors reported shots coming from that residence. We responded every time. We wastrie to make contact with him. He would not come to the door. Reporter at one point during the rampage yesterday the gunman crashed his pickup truck through the fence at the Elementary School and started opening fire on that school. Thankfully the teachers and Staff Members heard that gun fire and they immediately locked the students inside the classrooms before the gunman arrived on campus. Authorities say that he at one point tried to get into the classrooms but they were all locked. So instead he fired through the walls of the school, there was one boy we understand, a kindergartener who was struck by the fun fire and wounded but it was the quick thinking by school staff that likely prevented a massacre on that come pus. One of the janitors in particular is being credited with saving a lot of lives and this morning we talked to his boss. Five minutes before the incident there was 80 kids on the playground. The shooter came around the corner here and fired through this window first. The janitor who is 64 and 270 pounds took off get in to the classroom, get in to the classroom. He is an absolute hero. He has the week off. He does. He deserves every minute of it. Reporter the Elementary School remains closed for the time being as students and Staff Members there obviously try to recover from the trauma of what they went through yesterday. I should point out that the boy who was shot at that school yesterday as he hid out in his classroom remains in Critical Condition. One of four shooting victims still in the hospital today and recovering much as this community is trying to recover here. I just learned a short time ago before we came on air a pastor said there will be a vinyl ill tonight here at the Community Center to honor the lives that were lost yesterday and to pray for the victim who were still recovering here.
