60s and 70s, and how likely brushfires are today. We just pointed out today, i wouldnt be surprised if we see a few more by the time the sun sets, we could see a couple more, the upshot today is some high fire wind, there is not a red flag warning, its just hot and dry and every thing is ready to go it doesnt take much. Even a piece of glass against a piece of paper in the right angle in the sun, could start a fire. It doesnt always have to come from a source. There is a heat advisory still in effect lasting through tonight, that excessive heat warning is in red, that is towards fairfield, vacaville, that bad boy stays in effect until friday, it is going to be another hot day tomorrow, not as hot, we already have a record today, san jose second straight day, 90 degrees. The fog along the coast, you can see it right here a little bit little bit of fog try to come up into monterey bay. It should cool off by tomorrow afternoon, that is that search to drop his temperatures and get them back in a position where we could see temperatures that arent record temperatures not spare the air days or things like that but in the meantime, a very warm day today, more records were sent to the heat advisory remains in effect through the next few hours, extreme heat warning remains in effect for tomorrow, the inland bay valley. We will put that all together, and see you back here. It was not fired but dry brush firefighters are battling in the east bay, all part of an effort to reduce dangerous fuels that feed deadly wildfires. Tom baker joins now, the heat was a big challenge, tom, for firefighters. Thats right, the north orinda fuel break shaded feel break is one of 35 project the governor wants done before the really dangerous weather starts in a couple of months. And, the fact is, these particular projects heat wave or not through the state fire, utility preservation through tender, dry brush and vegetation along the 17 mile corridor from berkeley through lafayette. Today it was so hot, it would have been dangerous for cruise and additional firefighters here, mostly to protect from dangers. Despite we are still maintaining safety we are having people work in longsleeved tshirts. So, just to give them a little more ability to meet their temperature. Maintaining body temperature is crucial when heatstroke is a real danger. We go over work versus rest cycles, so we went to increase rsi the heat comes up. That doesnt mean shaded areas in cooling where water hydration stations are always stocked. Trucks standby, ready to help with cooling as well. Whether in the immediate area is measured hourly. Despite we check every hour and we have planned activity levels, when the relative humidity hits a certain level, and the wind had a certain level we stop work. Intense heat calling Fire Suppression to standby. This area has already been treated, removing decades of not generations of lowlying debris, brush, and other things that could easily catch fire. But, it is not tall enough to send those flames up into those trees, where a real forest fire can start and the embers could be blown ahead for miles and miles. You see during heat wave, wildfires, the danger is far greater because on days like today when you are in that era, it is brutal. You know, youre just dripping sweat, you are losing so much fluid. Despise you added that physical activity, hose lines, and the heat of the fire that increases tremendously. This and many of the other project should be done by early fall, just in time for the worst weather, dry hot and windy. Reporting live, tom baker, ktvu f0x2 news. Back to school for these students at Skyline High School in oakland has been a bit unbearable. The classrooms dont have ac, its hard to focus. Its a question of how many can we get, how quickly can we get them into the classr will g and that has yet to be determined. Teachers say fans wont cut it. The only solution that i see is airconditioning, and upgrading the logical system. Can we install central air conditioning in all of our schools and run it . We cant its impossible. We do not have the money to do that. But, we are going to do as much as we can as quickly as we can. The teacher who filed this complaint is also claiming that the district is not following oshas safety recommendations when it comes to dealing with the heat index over 91 degrees, and so, they are also claiming that Something Like that, stressing that situation as well. We reached out to osha and they tell us there is no pending investigation. As per fans we are told that they are blowing and seeking out 100 fans hope to have them in schools by tomorrow. This is not the classic october event where you have this kind of heat, but the wind is relatively light. Firefighters are stepping on these fires, developing very quickly, you see the fog come back up the coast, that is tomorrow afternoon, which is when the cooling should begin by tomorrow afternoon. But in the meantime, that temperature is slightly cooler than today so i suspect we will not see as many records i suspect we will see more temperatures in the 80s and 90s, but not in the 100s. Will it ever friday. Saturday, sunday, significantly cooler. We are going the right way. Will stay cool and see you back here with the five day forecast. Struck a doctor and santa rosa is facing criminal charges for prescribing dangerously high levels of opioids that investigators say led to the death of five patients. He ran that practice out of this office, on santa rosa farmer was lane. Now the 72yearold nurse, surgeon is in Sonoma County jail facing murder charges. State attorney general Javier Becerras says keller prescribed dangerously high levels of addictive opioids and is responsible for the deaths of five patients leading to four counts of seconddegree murder and a fifth charge of elder abuse. In a statement, becerra said, quote, doctors take an oath to protect patients and not engage in behaviors that can risk their health and safety. He is devastated. That is kellers reaction says his attorney john cox who also claims the charges are unfounded. Doctor keller believes that he absolutely treated each patient in a proper manner and that there is no basis for him to be charged with any crime of the sort. He says patients committed suicide, one died of a methadone overdose and a fifth died of lung disease. I think he was trying to treat a patient that either came to him with an opioid addiction, which still somehow needed to be treated, he had a medical obligation to treat these patients, for their severe pain. The attorney general says keller prescribed powerful drugs, including vicodin, morphine, and oxycontin, as many as 300 pills at a time in medical practices. Legal analyst Michael Cardoza says it is rare for the Attorney Generals Office to try criminal cases, and that becerra is sending a message. It is going to be a Second Degree murder if you overprescribed opioids, whatever they are prescribing and whatever else is one of your patients dies we are going to look very closely.
